What time are they playing?
Me must sees are Television, Patton Oswalt, Dismemberment Plan, and Cloud Nothings. Everything else is negotiable.

Welcome to Austin.
I would go see Kurt Vile instead, but that's just me.

Baloo... how was it? Who did you see?

It was a blast. Still pissed I missed the Descendents to watch LSU lose. The entire second half I was at a bar thinking, "I could be watching Milo".
The best moment is when we decided to go to the comedy tent to get a decent spot for Patton Oswalt by watching Kyle Kinane before him. But due to the stage placement, it was directly in the path of the orange stage's sound. So Kinane did a bit on mortality while we could clearly hear Johnny Marr playing How Soon Is Now in the background. It was surreal, and Kinane joked about it, as did Oswalt later on, as he did an impromtu duet with Kurt Vile's set in the style of Nickelback. So, in a way, we saw all four acts.
Highlights:
Kyle Kinane backed by Johnny Marr (seriously, it worked perfectly and will be the most memorable thing about the show for me)
Patton Oswalt
(Black) FLAG (Dez even did a few tunes)
The Men (never heard of 'em before, but they rocked my world)
Julie Ruin (or so I heard, I saw the Cloud Nothings instead, but the people in our group who saw them said it was the best set of the weekend -- poor decision on my part though the CN's were very good)
The Dismemberment Plan ("you guys are mocking me with your functional glow sticks")
Body Count (we missed Ice T due to the game, but we saw his metal band)
Disappointments:
Television (kinda boring live, not gonna lie, and no Richard Lloyd)
Craig Robinson (no one wants to hear your band, do jokes Mr. Funny Man)
Washed Out (man, do they suck)
The Subhumans (bitter disappointment for me)
Killer Mike (not his fault, plagued by sound problems and he was game, but we couldn't hear squat)

Yeah, The Men rock. Suprised you had never heard of them. They fit nicely into the Titus Andronicus/Cloud Nothings mold

Cool... finally talked my gf out of driving to Austin for The Julie Ruin..
I was disappointed with DP at Riot Fest
I agree, The Men are great...
I may need to plan to attend this next year...

It's a blast. Really, its the odd touches that make it such a fun festival (that and the smaller crowds and beautiful weather). We watched live wrestling while Thee Oh Sees played in the background (the tag team match was decided by one team clearly cheating whenever the ref turned his back... what were the odds?!) There was an open skate ramp and the pros went at the massive halfpipe -- including Matt Hoffman of 30 for 30 fame. I liked watching X-gamers removed from their BS competition and instead just doing tricks for a half hour.
And I fully endorse the taco cannon. The comedy tent was always a welcome reprieve, especially early in the day when local improv troupes did genuinely bizarre crap. Robot poetry was awesome (a guy recited 1's and 0's for about five minutes). This wasn't comedy really, it was just deranged freaks being given a microphone.

Just noticed Flag played... They were fricking awesome at Riot Fest!

The best part of Flag's set is watching all the kids bail on it because it was too loud and aggressive. Pretty soon, it was just a bunch of bitter old guys screaming along to "Six Pack".
If you are under 30, you are a wimp. Henry Rollins was right, we are the first generation who is gonna be more hardcore than our kids. We're gonna have to put up with them listening to European technopop and pretending they know how to party.
