Larry Reynolds says he is disappointed in November duck numbers

“I’m disappointed,” Reynolds said late Wednesday after his jaunt into the southeast marshes. “We had been getting good reports from the Biloxi Marsh, Delacroix and the mouth of the (Mississippi) river for the last couple of weeks. But, today, we did not see very much.”
quote:
“I’m a little gun shy after writing the (September) report on teal, that it was the lowest on record, then having to come back with this report. I do not want to write another lowest-on-record report, but we haven’t crunched the numbers yet,” Reynolds said. “What I can say is that I’m disappointed.”
quote:
Reynolds said his peers in other Mississippi Flyway states have reported fall flights of ducks are about a month late.

there are way more ducks in the area I hunt than there were last year at this time, mainly due to Isaac

The lone bright spot in his Wednesday survey was a flight over Catahoula Lake
I like the sound of that

And you still have 15 days for more to arrive.

Well missing the opener for a chance to shoot an elk is looking better

Ya I know this front probably brought even more down. It would be nice to get another good front before the opener. Looking at the extended forecast for the 23rd and it is supposed to be 38 that morning!!!

Fields in NE LA are looking right. Lafourche is full and backing up into 15 fields without having to pump some areas. It would be great if we got just one more good rain then the public spots will be pretty much good to go. It's setting up for an awesome East Zone opener.

That's whatcha need for sure. The older I get, the more I'm convinced that duck numbers (non coastal that is) have as much to do with having a ton of water in the area as it does cold weather.
I'm telling y'all, ducks follow these big rain events.

True. In dry years, every body is convinced that just having water is the ticket to full straps every day but the birds leave pretty quick when every pond has decoys floating in it. This is setting up a lot like last year. Lots of water right before the season and ducks were stacked in droves in the usual Norf East LA spots like Wham and 15. Season opens and the birds didn't shag arse to the coast but pretty much stuck around. It would be nice to get a good front though. Last year the week before the season we got a freeze.

Very true the ducks still have to have some places to rest and eat without getting shot at or they will leave rather quickly.

Catahoula has so many ducks the sky gets dark when you jump em up. Thousands stacked on thousands. Gonna be a good year!
