I have always believed it is better to defer to the second half. It potentially gives the opportunity to have the ball twice in a row at the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd half. Making a back to back score possible before the other team sees the ball again. It helps to get back in the game if behind at the half.

This is the first game I feel it best to take the ball on offense first if they win the coin toss. I do not believe it a good idea to put the defense on the field first. If Bama scores first, LSU will be working out of a hole from the start. The Bama crowd would be energized.

On the other hand, if the offense just gets a couple of first downs, at least they can flip the field. But if score on their first possession, it would drastically change the complexion of the game. A TD would take the crowd out of the game and put fear in the hearts of Bama. I'd rather them working from behind than us. Also our offense is older and more experienced than the defense. They are better prepared to handle the hostile environment from the start.

Or we could go 3 and out.

Oh great. Another Kick/Receive/Defer debate.

If you defer, the other team better receive.

And that's all I have to say... about that.

Which has a chance of performing better? Bama O against our D or our O against Bama's D? I go with our O against their D. Our chances of scoring on them is greater than our chances of stopping them from scoring.

Interesting point, though I disagree.

I'd rather their offense be on the field first when the energy is at its peak. That way, LSU gets the ball in the 2nd half in front of what will by then be a more modest crowd. Also, if I had to choose the first half or second half as the half where I want LSU's defense on the field more, I'm choosing the first half. I defer.

???????

My suggestion was to choose to receive if we win the coin toss. Not sure what you are talking about. And that's all I have to say.

That is normal when one lacks reading comprehension skills.

I will go slowly for you. N-o-r-m-a-l-l-y I believe the team should defer to the second half when winning the toss. H-o-w-e-v-e-r, for this game I believe they should receive the ball on offense rather than defer. Got it?

I must have been confused. Maybe my reading comprehension needs some work as well. I still don't get it.

And I thought what I said to him was VERY funny.

Why take the ball?? The crowd will be rocking pregame and NEVER settle down before we get the ball

If we go on defense first and force a punt, the crowd won't be as rowdy

We are talking about our defense right? If they score first, do you think the crowd will get louder or quieter? If we score first will they be louder or quieter?
