Spotlight: LSU Basketball - Jordan Mickey

Spotlight: LSU Basketball takes a closer look at one of LSU's top incoming recruits, Jordan Mickey. The power forward from high school power Prime Prep is 6'8" and 220 lbs. Mickey is a high flying, shot blocking, rebound machine, however, he also brings offensive skills more advanced than most of our incoming post players. Mickey shows once again the type of players Johnny Jones wants to fill his rosters with; long and athletic.

Mickey has been compared to Tyrus Thomas with his athletic ability, smooth shot, and his quick ability to get vertical.

I've said it before, and I may be completely wrong, but I think (at least early) Mickey makes a bigger impact on this team than Martin. With he, JOBIII, Odah and even Coleman, LSU should be in the top 2-3 of the SEC in rebounding

He's scary good, his post game is underrated considering he's just a freshman

Yeah, we can really throw around some size this year if we want to
Tim Q 6'5 pg
Morgan/hornsby 6'4 shooting guards
Martin 6'9 sf
J.O.B. 6'9 pf
Odoh 6'11 c/
Malone 7'1 c
Mickey 6'8 off the bench at the 3 or 4
this is just a scary line up if we want to go big at any time. Some NBA teams don't start that kind of length. (Not saying this will be the starting line up, just that we have it available and it should be SEC caliber players all around)

I agree. The one thing I worry about is outside shooting. We know Stringer can go off any game, and Hickey is hot and cold (but usually red hot when it's a big game). Can Morgan step up?
Also, hate to burst you're bubble, but Hornsby is ineligible this season. He can only practice with the team

I am very worried about our outside shooting as well. Teams will zone us. It's going to be their only way of stopping us. You can beat a zone two ways however; with the three ball, or by slashing to the lane faster than the zone can handle.
We are gonna have to hope our slashing style perimeter guys can find the creases in the zone to get to the basket.

Doesn't he have to sit out ?

Did not know that. Still, Morgan will be a big contributor at the 2 spot and he is 6'4

Hornsby would have been an amazing addition to this squad, however, we will still be covered with Stringer and Morgan. I hope Malik gets that jumper more consistent and has his defensive footwork improved. Man this team is gonna be fun to watch. Wow.

That's just the way it is
Some things will never change

Yeah, this is about as excited as I have ever been for an upcoming LSU basketball season. I'm not saying we are going to win the NCAA or go to the final four or anything outlandish like that. But.....I will say that we have the ability to play with every team we get on the court with this year. UF and Kentucky better come to play or the Tigers can beat them this year.

Damn, I didn't know he had a 7'3" wingspan...that's sick. Tyrus Thomas 2.0, boys

Yea. It shows too. Look at some of his dunks, no way he could do those with "normal" length arms. haha

Can't view the video on iPad but can read the article. Just wondering if it's just me.

Haha for real. He definitely looks like more of an offensive threat than T-time was. I guess it remains to be seen if he can jump outta the gym the way Tyrus could.
