Green, who turned down an opportunity to play with the full US national team, will join the German U19 squad for two youth friendlies against France.

I wonder if there's pressure from Bayern to stay in the German set up? It wouldn't shock me in the least.

He probably wants to see if he has a shot with the German squad and I'm sure he's feeling a little bit of pressure from teammates and such. I do know that his father is pushing him toward the US.

He had a chance to practice with us, we didn't file for his one time change so he wasn't going to be eligible anyway.

With the plan of bringing a roster of around 23 players, the U.S. coach may also use the opportunity in Europe to introduce some younger players to the Senior Team program. One player who has been in the media spotlight recently is 18-year-old Julian Green, a dual citizen of the United States and Germany. After careful consideration, Green will not be included on the roster this time around; a move Klinsmann says is in the best interest of the player.

“We are going to give Julian an opportunity to breathe,” said Klinsmann. “All of these conversations and attention can be a bit overwhelming for a young player, so we decided to take the foot off the pedal and let him focus on his work at Bayern. We had a great conversation. He’s a mature young man and he clearly has a bright future. I told him that when the time is right, the door is wide open.”

Right, to me at least, allowing Julian the "opportunity to breathe" becomes a valid reason, if he was avoiding all international duty.

Julian didn't turn down our callup invitation, Jurgy revoked his callup.

He doesn't have the pressure of making a one time switch. He can still play with the Germans without saying "this is where I will be, end of story."

He scored a little own goal for the reserves last week but also put in a few assists that game. As of like a week and a half ago when I was looking at it, he was the 3rd leading scorer in all of the regionalliga, which is comprised of 90 teams. Like 15 goals and 6 assists or some shite like that. Pretty sweet for his first yer with the team.

So if he ends up failing with Germany and resorts to the US do we love him or hate him?

Show me someone who prefers the player to be "rejected/failed" at another national team before choosing the United States.

He chose to be called up to Germany U-19s instead of USMNT. He's made his choice in my opinion. If it doesn't work out with Germany then sucks for you dude, you made a shitty arse decision.

That might not even be the case. The kid is very american and not one of the players who didn't even really know their dad. Pops has been pushing to play for the US. But you can see why is sticking with the German youth set up. The Germans have been known to leach other countries talent.

1. You don't choose a call up, you either accept or reject one.
2. To play with us he would have to file his one time switch.
3. 18 is a young age to determine one's future, permanently.
4. Read what I quoted above, where Jurgen talks about wanting to give him some air to breathe as his career starts to take off.

Give him a break, guys. These aren't easy things to figure out. He's American but has legitimate connections to both countries.

It's quite the opposite of him making a choice, nothing changes by him attending a Germany youth camp. He can still play for either team. You can hate him if you want, doesn't really matter. I think he'll be playing for us in the next year. Even if he doesn't, it is hardly the same situation as a Rossi. Green has lived in America for like 2 years when he was a baby. I'm still not sure why he wasn't called into the u20 WC squad in the summer.

No doubt, remove the Poles and Turks and they're a borderline top 15 team. International eligibility and citizenship isn't as cut and dry as simple randy makes it out to be.
