Hey guys, some months back I posted pics of a used Remington XP-100 I had just purchased for this years deer season. I took some flack over the stock's purple color. I've now finished restoring the stock, painting the barrel/action and changing the scope, rings and base.

I removed the old paint w/ sandpaper followed by paint stripper. The numerous pin holes and stock irregularities were repaired w/ Bondo. A primer coat was applied. I used a "digital camp" stencil pattern. I used a number of camo paints (sand, army green, dark brown and olive drab) from Krylon, Rust-Oleum and Hunter's Specialties. I like the HS best, but found it only at Bass Pro Shop. The barrel and action were painted w/ Olive Green Aluma-Hyde II (from Brownell's). The AH II was baked on using the kitchen oven.

Here are the before and after pics.

Here's a pic of the final load. The group is a little less than 1". Hopefully the group will shrink some as the barrel gets conditioned to the load. Ready for AR deer season to open!

Very nice. Looks a lot better than before. What's the recoil/muzzle lift on that thing?

Nice job.
I have never shot one but seems like it would be awkward to shoot.
How is the recoil on this?

LOL!! I didn't even notice that, but you're right. I usually shoot at a friend's house. Maybe I should offer to help w/ the weedeating someday.....

There is definitely a learning curve for handguns, especially those w/ long eye relief scopes. Learning to use the scope takes time and practice. Handgun scopes are set up for 8-10" of eye relief. I have to have an adequate rest. I've learned how to make do w/ all kinds of different rests in the field.

Recoil isn't really that bad until you get to unported/unbraked heavy hitters like the 375 JDJ (270 gr bullet at 2100 fps). A heavy loaded 45 Colt or 44 Mag recoils more than this 7-08. OTOH, the 7-08 has a lot of muzzle flip (bout 45 degrees) and heavy muzzle blast. Ear plugs are a must.

Is that gun ported? I don't see a muzzle break on it.

Nope, the only ported handguns I have are both Contender barrels, a 375 JDJ and a 338 JDJ #2 (180 gr bullet at 2600 fps). Different ports behave differently. The port on the 375 decreases both felt recoil and muzzle rise. OTOH, the Magnaport on the 338 results in NO muzzle rise, but instead the rearward recoil is increased.
