I spoke to my Stepfather, a now retired long time high school coach in Baton Rouge, about this game and here are some of his insights.

- LSU shouldn't even try to establish a run game, rather establish the pass first, and maybe go back to it later in the game for balance.

-Bama's secondary is the weakness of their team. No big insight there, but to slow the blitz packages down, LSU will need to use screen passes early and often to keep them honest. Also expects Mett to get sacked 3-5 times, sacks are better than interceptions. In theory anyway.

-D should sell out to stop the run game of Bama and make them one dimensional. Even if the secondary gives up a few big plays, that's better than the alternative.

-LSU should be able to find some Bama weaknesses with two weeks to prepare and their weak slate thusfar possibly covering up what might be seen on tape and such.

Fairly generic stuff...thoughts?

Mostly agree but we absolutely have to establish some form of ground game. If we don't, they will just tee off on Mett.

Completely disagree. Hill is one of if not your best player. You don't just take him out of the gameplan.

He meant that LSU shouldn't be stubborn and try to force the run game if it isn't there.

A few 3 and out's early could be tough to overcome later.

I wouldn't abandon the run early, but I would come out in more 3 WR sets instead of power formations. We can still run from this set and it should spread the defense. I do think it's important to break tendencies early in the game.

If we can't run the ball somewhat, it'll be a long day.

Sounds like HE has it all figured out and should replace Miles before next Saturday.

HE's too old, and besides that has a Spurrier-at-South Carolina-approach now...Don't let the coaching stuff get in the way of your beer drinkin'...

It would be better if he could throw the ball away before he gets sacked.

I know it is easy to say - hard to do.

Gotta agree with that. And I suspect Cam will be thinking the same way. If he gets Mett up for this game like he was at the beginning of the year, we're gonna give them fits.

It never has!!!!!

IMO.... Hill runs the ball about 25-30 times and LSU wins. Its pretty simple. LSU CAN wear Bama out as well. Nobody seems to think this can happen. Bama hasn't really played anyone as good on BOTH sides of the ball like LSU is. I WANT Bama to put 9 in the box. BTW Cam was brought in for ONE REASON.......... Beat Bama.

Sounds good to me but I don't think I've seen a successful screen pass all season. Maybe they've been working on them in practice or something.

I was talking to the janitor at my son's school, and he played hs football. He said a balanced game would be our best bet to start, then just do whatever can net us the most touchdowns.

Sounds solid to me.

We need a run game
For balance and time control
If AJ is on bench he ain't picking us apart

Agreed. LSU won't be able to use a game plan similar to the one used against UF. Bama will score points. We won't have the luxury to be able to go 3 & out on consecutive drives and expect to have a chance at winning. I am a huge Les supporter, but if I had to knock him for anything(other than clock management) it would be stubbornly trying to force the run on teams.

3-5 sacks? Alabama is one of the worse in the sec in sacks. They rank 100 with 11 on the season. LSU has 20 and is ranked 22nd.

I hope like hell Hill gets even close to those numbers of carries cause only good things will come from that.

Bama is gonna sweat Mett from down 1, no doubt about that. But that's risky considering the caliber of our WR's and their weak secondary.

Like last year vs Bama, Mett is gonna have make quick and decisive decisions, even if that involves taking a sack sometimes.

Last year he had I think like 21 carries for 107 yards. This needs to improve. And last year Mett had his best game of the season against Bama. I LIKE LSU'S chances.
