I have a Jap A-5 Mag that I've decided to use as my primary duck gun, but it's a 30" fixed full and I'd like to be able to swap out chokes (IC for teal hunting, etc.). Question is, when does the barrel start to taper? I can get it threaded to fit most chokes, but I'm worried that cutting it in the wrong place will throw the entire pattern off. Does anyone have any experience with this or am I just a retard?

If there is enough metal, Briley is the place to send it. It might be cheaper to buy a new barrel...

Thanks for the link

If I have to shell out $430 I'm gonna talk to a gun smith and make it a project

It only comes with a modified choke? Seems like for $430 you would get an assortment of chokes.

yikes! for $430 for that barrel you could almost buy a new BPS. Add the cost of 3-5 chokes.

I would take it to a gunsmith to see if they could install the screw-in chokes in your current barrel. Would never try to do it myself.

I've gotten a .22 threaded for free, and it came out perfect. I'm just wondering where the hell to cut this thing, it's 30" so I have an inch or two to spare. The tapering of the barrel is the only thing that has me worried

Why don't you have a competent gunsmith open up the choke to mod or ic(good choice for steel over decoys). Mod for overall? Cheap job to get done.
