Glock 36 Questions

I've got a Glock 36 on order. I've never been a Glock owner, but was wondering what the OB thought about this weapon as a carry pistol and general observations.

I didn't want to have to drive to get one. The little gun shop down the road will have it for me by Friday.

I have one but never carry it. I dislike the fact that it has a very limited capacity. If I wanted that I would carry a 1911. I choose to carry a 9mm so I can have more rounds.

I'm standardizing ammo ... I have a 1911 that's a little to big to carry.

Well it's a Glock. It will go bang and send a chunk of lead in the general direction you point it in with fairly minimal maintenance and is virtually impervious to sweat and humidity. There are dozens holsters available for them so you will spend hours researching and fielding opinions from others who own similar. If by some small chance it fails fire you can at least bludgeon your attacker with it because it's an ugly chunk of metal and plastic and you can do nothing to improve or damage its looks further.

Ah the age old .45 vs 9 debate.

I would go 30s before 36.

You would but this thread is about the OP's G36 and 9mm vs .45 vs anything else is a moot point. I have a SHTFGear IWB holster on the way for my G26. Pretty much any holster that shields the trigger completely and still offers a full grip is a good idea with these guns.

This ^^^ -- 11 rounds instead of 7.
Of course he'd be even better off with a G19 that holds 16 rounds (18 rounds, like mine, if you install the "+2" baseplate on the mags).
It's not just the 9 vs. 45 that was mentioned. Do the math.
Figure the area of an expanded .45 ACP round (maybe around .95 caliber if you buy the best ammo available), and multiply by 7. Then take the area of an expanded 9mm round (mine expand to .83 caliber), and multiply by 16 (or 18).
You'll find that the cumulative area of sixteen 9mm bullet holes will be about double the cumulative area of the seven .45 ACP bullet holes.
All of those bullet holes are gonna be equally deep (using self defense ammo), and most of us (if not all of us) will shoot a 9mm faster (and more accurately) than we will a .45 (all things being equal - same make of gun, same weight of gun, same trigger, same sights, etc).

I looked at the 30s, but don't like the double stack. I have tyrannosaurus like hands, so I've discovered my accuracy improves with more narrow grips. I've carried a beretta 92 or 96 my whole life and have found that my accuracy has greatly improved with the single stack 1911.

I have one and love it. I carry it in winter. I don't sweat capacity though.

Sure the OP will thank you for this completely worthless serving of word salad...

Concealed? Holy crap man, if you can conceal one of those big wide monsters you can conceal anything. My first gun was a Beretta 90 two but I never had any intention of carrying it due to weight and width constraints. It was strictly a home defense gun.
Dawg has some words of wisdom. When it comes to carry guns with slightly limited capacity (depending on what you choose to carry), IMO it's best to have as many rounds as possible. You can fit more 9mm rounds in an equally sized magazine for 45 ACP.
But then again, if you're trying to keep your ammo the same I understand. And while you think you wouldn't be able to carry a chunky Glock in 45 with a double stack magazine, I think you're wrong. If you've been able to carry a Beretta 92 concealed, you can carry just about anything.

awesome carry 45. Recoil is pretty high. for a real man its not too much though. Simply cant go wrong with a glock. There are a lot of haters out there but i have owned more glocks than i can remember and they have all been great guns. They are ugly, easy to get tired of and easy to trade off. thats my problem. Im on thehunt for a glock 30 s. i want to shoot one first though.

Obviously it's a comfort issue which the OP addressed. The G36 is a slimmer profile than the G26. If he can shoot and handle the G36 more comfortably then that renders the ammo capacity moot. He has no less firepower than carrying a compact revolver plus the capability to carry a spare mag or two.

Dont know where you are but I saw a 30s at shoot wise on the westbank not long ago. There are so many valid arguments in this discussion it isnt worth going over them. My carry of choice is a Sig Scorpion Carry 1911....other than that its a g26 or a shield 9. Its depends on what I am wearing. Dont get caught up in the bullshite. Shoot lots of guns and make an informed choice.

I upgraded to a SIG Scorpion 1911 from the Beretta 96 and love it. However, it's a large gun to carry around. I've been torn between the XDs .45 (a unicorn these days) and the G36.
