Is Beckham's punt return production worth his big fielding risk?

I haven't seen anything in his return game that makes me say "wow". True, he had a big 100+ yd. FG return, but that wasn't a punt fielded with oncoming gunners.
Are there alternatives?

Did you happen to catch the N. TX game to open the season last year, or the Ole Miss game last year... or the TCU game this year.
I have to believe the COACHES believe he is the best choice and biggest return threat -- or else, yes, they would play an alternative. But despite his 2 muffed punts this year -- he has more returns for TDs than fumbles.
He's not the best I've ever seen at LSU -- that would be Skyler Green --- but OBJ is a big play threat and for that he's the man on Punt and kick returns until someone else proves themselves to the COACHES to be better -- and I guess that hasn't happened.

i was pretty damn drunk last night and made some disparaging comments about obj and now i'm sober and i'm not apologizing. not him as a person as he seems like a fine young man with class. but his ego has outpaced his ability to run ko's. his production is terrible not countng his propensity to fumble. we always seem to end up at the 18 yd line because he won't take the knee. so no, i don't think he's worth the risk as he fumbles and uses bad judgement.

in a word,
no
we can't have another muffed punt in a big game

I'd put Landry back there and tell him to just fair catch the ball. A muffed punt against Bama or A&M would be a loss.

Pretty sure those 2 yards don't have any impact on the gameplan or play calling. If all we're talking about is 2 yards, it's definitely worth the risk on a KO return. Now punt returns are another story.

7 yards, it comes out to the 25 now.

In the Alabama game, I'd stick someone else back there.

He's our best playmaker and you take the good with the bad

Totally worth it. Guy flat out manufactures yards.
