I don't really blame Raymond as much as youth for our problems int he secondary, and i know Les doesn't normally fire guys.

But

Ron Cooper is arguably the best DB coach in the country. HE is also currently coaching as USF, so i don't think it would be too hard to lure him back.

Any chance at all we go after him?

I think it is wishful thinking

no doubt cooper is a better db coach than raymond but our talent level at db is down big time. missing on landon collins is hurting us right now.

I think it's worth considering.

Damn, I didn't realize he lost his NFL gig. Les isn't going to fire Raymond though.

I'm pretty sure I read that Cooper left on bad terms. He's never coming back unless it's for another coach like you guys so desperately want.

I wouldn't mind it but it's not happening. Cooper didn't leave on good terms apparently. I'll give Raymond one more year to see what he can do because he's finally getting his guys in the system. Robinson and White will be studs. He should have a dominant DB class coming in too.

In a heartbeat.

I like Miles but as a Saints fan its so refreshing to hear Coach Payton not satisfied after a win.

Sorry but i didn't want to make a thread just on that.

Raymond is a good QB and not a good Developer

Cooper didnt really care about recruiting but was a great developer

I wish we would get Cooper back but dont see it happening

Cooper had the best db talent in college football to work with. PP7, badger, Reid, Claiborne, Taylor, Brooks, Jones, Simon and Loston. He failed to lock up collins and brought in the Jalens, Martin, Thomas, Sandolph and Thompson. How has he done since he left?

Lazy recruiter who liked to make his living at camps. Gave offers out without the rest of the staff's consent. That's why you had a few questionable offers handed out with a lot of confusion. The staff had to clean Cooper's garbage up on the recruiting trail.

He failed to lock up collins and brought in the Jalens, Martin, Thomas, Sandolph and Thompson, so the talent dropoff was going to be significant whether he stayed or not. You can't expect to cover these beasts in the sec with the Jalens all day. Eventually they'll get lit up. He also lied about contacting recruits which is a fireable offense. How has he done since he left? I'm a little concerned about our db development as we all should be, but Raymond's recruiting over the next two years is critical to our success over the next 4-5 years. You could be the best coach in the world and still look like shite without the talent.

Yep. He basically lied to Miles by saying he wasn't going to Tampa and he was all LSU. This from the Atlanta airport on the way to Tampa.

I doubt Miles brings him back.

You remember that guy from Selma a few years ago? That was Cooper's doing. The word was Cooper was trying to get out of NCAA for awhile because he was tired of dealing with things like recruiting. Kinda ironic because he's right back to doing it again since it didn't seem to work out for him in the NFL. Guy could coach his arse off some DBs. Didn't matter who he had. I'd love to have him back but it's not happening.

I don't think Raymond is anywhere near Cooper's level but let's be real here...wasn't like he was left with a stable full of studs. It doesn't help LSU's front seven is weak and gets zero pressure. Don't care how good your DBs are if you're not getting pressure your DBs will always look awful.

Truth is the guy had issues with Miles and Miles with him. This isn't a shocker however as Miles would rather a good to great recruiter than a good to great coach on his staff.

Problem is that when you only have 3 defensive coaches on the entire staff and they coach without much help from others, it's going to be tough.

Especially if one or two of those coaches simply aren't great at coaching up talent.

Please don't include Loston with those others mentioned.

The "young players" excuse is not longer valid. We are 9 games into the season and these guys are still clueless as to where they're supposed to be. Either we completely whiffed on all those recruits on the field or they are not buying into what they're being coached during the week.

I'm going with the latter.
