He left on bad terms with South Carolina too, if memory serves. Didn't Spurrier demote him at one point?

Think about it: for all his coaching ability, he has held six different jobs in the past decade. The LSU job was one of the longer stops in his career. What does that tell you?

I'm pretty sure I read that Cooper left on bad terms. He's never coming back unless it's for another coach like you guys so desperately want.

Heard the same. The "things" I heard:

- couldn't get on same page with Chief some of the time
- wouldn't, not couldn't, put much into recruiting so got on bad side of CLM AND Wilson
- some of the players spoke up about him, not sure what about specifically

And it does appear Cooper sucked at recruiting. With NCAA limited staffs can't have an anchor at an elite program. Bear said 90% of CFB is recruiting (that's why he cheated so much).

I remember there being some recruiting issue there as well. like he offered a smallish LB without Spurrier's approval (Drayton Calhoun's teammate at Tucker in the ATL area iirc).

I don't know the background issue. I think he went from being secondary coach to safeties coach or something equally ridiculous. He was at LSU a year later I think.

Cooper is the best db coach in the country. It isn't even close really. Every college he went to he shits first rounders no matter how the recruiting is.
