Here's some easy reading that covers all of the playoff/Supporters' Shield scenarios for this weekend:

LINK
quote:

New York Red Bulls will clinch the Supporters’ Shield IF

New York Red Bulls win vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday

OR

New York Red Bulls tie vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday AND
Sporting Kansas City lose or tie vs. Philadelphia Union on Saturday

OR

New York Red Bulls lose vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday AND
Sporting Kansas City lose or draw vs. Philadelphia Union on Saturday and don't score 8 goals more than NY AND
Portland Timbers lose or tie vs. Chivas USA on Saturday AND
Real Salt Lake lose or tie vs. Chivas USA on Wednesday

Sporting Kansas City will clinch the Supporters’ Shield IF

Sporting Kansas City win vs. Philadelphia Union on Saturday AND
New York Red Bulls tie or lose vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday

Portland Timbers will clinch the Supporters’ Shield IF

Portland Timbers win vs. Chivas USA on Saturday AND
New York Red Bulls lose vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday AND
Sporting Kansas City tie or lose vs. Philadelphia Union on Saturday

Real Salt Lake will clinch the Supporters’ Shield IF

Real Salt Lake win vs. Chivas USA on Wednesday

AND

Sporting Kansas City tie or lose vs. Philadelphia Union on Saturday AND
Kansas City does not score 8 more goals than RSL

AND

New York Red Bulls lose vs. Chicago Fire on Sunday AND
New York does not score 3 more goals than RSL

AND

Portland Timbers tie or lose vs. Chivas USA on Saturday
We all clear on that?

Ummm, I'm going to predict that NY will win the Supporters Shield and then blow it in the playoffs.

Here is an interesting Guardian article about MLS and tv.

LINK

I agree with most of it. The MLS needs their national games to not be on different times and days every week. I like ESPN doing games on Sunday nights as long as they aren't on after 10 Eastern because that's dumb. A Friday night doubleheader would be cool maybe have a game on at 7 eastern on the east coast and a game out west that follows. Also, maybe have a few games that follow EPL games or Bundesliga if the league goes back to Fox.

I figure they go by goal difference.

Then if that's the case then new York and kc wouldn't need to lose for the timbers to win the shield. They could both draw and if the timbers win they'd win by on goal on gd

Jacob Peterson has a great chance to score after a Zusi FK but he kicks it right at the goalie

I believe the lower seed team has the first home game so not very good.

Philly died after the Gold Cup. McInerney was sky high before that, but came back complete garbage.

San Jose 1-0 at the half and still have a long shot at making the playoffs.
