UL (Lafayette) is beginning to harm themselves with this name stuff

I'm just a casual fan. I don't really care whether ULL wins or loses. I wont lose any sleep if they have a bad week, and wont throw a party because they win. However, I like to follow how some of the teams near home are doing. I like the success ULL has been having, and hope it's continued.
All that being said, I was watching the game last night but I fell asleep. ULL was up 20-7 when I fell asleep and hadn't heard anything about it. I tune into local sports radio this morning, assuming they would be talking about such a big game for ULL, but what are they talking about??? The damn name of the school.
I come on TD and browse and I see people crying about a name.
I hope ULL people realize that all this will accomplish is making other people talk about the school name, and not the success of the football team. People, like myself, who don't really care either way, will take jabs at the name instead of talking about a football team who should win the Sunbelt this year.

This is not about a nickname, like Ole Miss or Mizzou. This is about exploiting a loophole and creating a misleading title that makes the audience assume that they are THE University of Louisiana.
This is like Stony Brook demanding to be called The University of New York City.

I mean, to be honest I could really care less either way.
When I hear UL around here I know people are talking about UL Lafayette. I know UL is Louisville, but when I'm talking about Louisville I say Louisville.
My point was that, all this crying and bitching about a stupid name is taking away from a good football season. I should be hearing praise on the radio right now their football team, and instead I'm hearing about a damn name. It's taking away from a great season, and it's their own people causing the BS.

They should just play ULM for the rights to the name the following year.
The only 2 programs that should care about the name issue are ULL and ULM because they are the only 2 affected by it. No one in the country thinks for a second that either school is the states flagship school. I think (hope) most LSU fans care only because it pisses off ULL fans.
Does anyone think Ohio University is better/more prestigious that Ohio State? If someone picked a school based solely because it sounded like a flagship school, that is a person I'm glad not to have as a fellow alum.

There is strong speculation that the University of Buffalo will be changing its name to The University of New York in effort to join the Big 10
I don't know why people are up in arms about this. If these schools want to be addressed a certain way, more power to them.

How do ULM fans feel about it? Do they get pissed, being that they are "the other UL?" Do they even have enough people that give a crap about their university to care?

I saw a license plate frame yesterday that said "alumni university of Louisiana". All I could do was laugh. Why are they so embarrassed of Lafayette

By the way Stony brook is 50 miles east of New Yrok City and there are a lot of SUNY branches. and you aren't serious about Buffalo are you?

They use UL Lafayette for academic purposes. ULL is not a recognized nickname. Why do people insist on using it?
