Fished Reggio today in my kayak. 14 keeper trout with about ten throwbacks.Didnt paddle more than a mile or two. They are definitely coming in. Finally tried the Matrix Shad . Went with Lemonhead color sice it was sunny. Only actually pulled in two from Matrix as they kept friggin spitting it out . Cork would go straight down and some would even start running with it,then spit it out. Had another rig set up with voodoo shrimp and would cast in same spot landing most that hit it. Both lures were new,so i threw out the theory that maybe they were tasting plastic. Any insight would be appreciated. Oh and i lost four at the boat. Getting a net in the morning when i get off of work.

Y'all all stay outta this area...Reggio. I am being released from my assignment in Amarillo in a few days, and all I can tell y'all is there's nothing but jacks and gars within paddling distance of Reggio. Stay away...

I'll only be off for a couple months, so y'all can have it back after, oh, new years.

How long of a line are you using under the cork?

was using #20 Flouro leader the other day about 18".

I like using my own leader line, not the stuff that comes with some popping corks.

Let me give you a little inside info. Cooler water temp, fish slower and fish the bottom for bigger trout. Look for turns in the bayou with deep holes. The trout stack up in them.

shite. I can't catch anything under a cork in the winter .
You won't catch me with a cork in my boat in the winter months. It's funny to because you'll see all sorts of people running all over with mini marker bouys attached to their poles during the winter months.

Unreal. But yes, I do keep some corks in the boat if I'm fishing the evening after a warm front in bays that are close to deep water.

We frick shite up with a cork in hopedale during the winter. We also catch jigging and retrieving, but a cork still works during winter months.

one of my favorite winter fishing holes is right off Bayou Blue, just north of the Pointe Au Chens landing. There's a weir there and the specks stack up in the deep hole the moving water has dug there.
All the boats will pass us up heading to the Sulphur Mines and we'll have our rod tips in the water so the lookie-loo's can't see that we're tearing em up right there, not a mile from the launch.

Matrix Shad is a much larger lure than a Vudu shrimp, especially when we are talking 12-14" specks. My guess is that they were hitting the Matrix and spitting it because they couldn't get the whole thing in their mouth whereas they could easily swallow the smaller Vudu.

Same thing happened to me in Hopedale last weekend, so instead of going with a smaller plastic, I went larger - Academy's H2O shrimp that looks like the Vudu but much much larger. Everything I caught from there on, was much much larger.

Went out last Wednesday in Delacroix. Had live shrimp and Vudu shrimp. Caught just as many with the Vudu as we did with live bait. We were even catching some 18-22 inch reds and drum with the Vudu.

I will give some advice. Don't store the Vudu with other plastics. Not sure way but the other plastics destroy the Vudu.

Same here. I just use Trilene Big Game in Green for my line and leaders.

In the winter I usually leave the corks at home and fish the bottom or around drops as others have stated. If the weather is warmer, I will use a cork with about a 4' leader and drift it right at the edge of big drop offs.

Pretty sure it says this on the Vudu box. They even provide you with their own bag. I've always wanted to know what would happen.
