Shimano Reels - Old vs New (E vs. G)

What is the deal with the newer generation Curados?
It seems that the E-Series is the holy grail, hard to find (still pricey), tough reel.
I am reading that the newer G-series are not of the same quality with plastic internals, etc.
I have one 200E7 that I got from a guy I fish with and it is definately a jam up reel. Do they make that "quality" anymore? Do you have to step up in the product line for it?

Does "jam up reel" mean its good or bad?

Chronarch = Curado E
As for the g series, they're still very good reels, just not qqqqquite as good as the previous gen.

It means good. This is the first E-Series Curado that I have handled, and it is a workhorse.
I know a few guys that use them exclusively and have 7 or 8 in the boat. I will be in the market for new reels in the future, and I am just wondering how to get that quality in a Shimano, or look at different brands.
ETA: Bourgs, thank you...that is simple enough.

Shimano needed a new price point in their lineup of reels, so they rebranded the old Curado into the Chronarch and cut the cost of the Curado in order to make it the middle man between the Chronarch and Citica.

The Chronarch is what you are looking for

Chronarch it is...Thank you moses and bourgs.
I was leaning towards the Lews from the reviews and price point at $100 BUT I think I might have to run with Shimano now that I have the answer.

The curado bantam might have been the best reel ever made.
The new curados are still pretty doggone good, just not as good as they used to be.
The chronarchs are sweet, very impressive.
The calcuttas are as good as ever.

I got my Chronarch for dirt cheap off of eBay
My go-to when I really need to sling some topwater baits

Is this the "B-Series"?
If so, my brother picked up 2 new in box a while back from an old timer at the tackle shop. Paid something like 50 each.

I think they're the old old curados

Am I the only one who hates the white color on the chronarch?
Posted on 10/22/13 at 12:10 pm to Polar Pop
They're the curados from like the 90s.

You'll be glad you went with the Chronarch. They're still made in Japan vs. the Curado G that's made in Malaysia. I've played with a few Curado G's, and while they were smooth out of the box they felt more "plasticy" than any of the previous Curado models. As far as the Bantam Curados, people are usually referring to the CU200 (sometimes called greenies). That was one of the best reels ever made, and is the reel that put Shimano on the map. I've got a dozen or so that are 8-12 years old that still work as good as when I bought them. Shimano unveiled a new Chronarch at iCast this year that I presume will take the place of the E series Chronarch next year (at a higher price point). I do a lot of horse trading for fishing equipment and found a lot of good deals on new and like new reels on Bass Boat Central and Texas Fishing Forum. Also, Tackle Warehouse will start their Christmas sales soon too.

Chronarch 50mg series is an awesome reel. It handles light baits better than any other reel I've used. It's also one of the hardest reels to find because nobody will let go of them.

I keep hearing that, but haven't seen them yet.

Definitely a little different look for Shimano.
