Area 6 - anyone going? Plannig to take my son for the last time. He is 17 so this wil be his last year to participate in the youth hunt. he is 6'2" and pretty much on his own but we still enjoy hunting in the same stand together for this one weekend. Always good to talk about all the memories etc. Good luck to all who go and I look forward to hearing about some "first deer" experiences. Be safe!

That is what my son got his first deer with as well - great gun. He was 9 and I remember that like it was yesterday!

I am still amazed at how many people don't know or take advantage of this...

mine is bow hunting pretty much exclusively now.. so it doesn't really matter...

I think it is great that you both spend time with each other in the stand for this hunt, but as I read it, it is not required

quote:

The supervising adult shall maintain visual and voice contact with the youth at all times. EXCEPT properly licensed youths 16-17 years old and youths 12 years old or older who have successfully completed a hunter safety course may hunt without a supervising adult

Correct - definately not required and he has been hunting by himself for a while, its just something that we do together. Believe it or not it was his idea a few years ago to keep it up! We make at least one hunt together over the weekend.....after that he is pretty much done with Dad and wanting to hunt by self again so I grab my bow and try to sling some arrows!

Does my heart a lot of good to hear about a 6' 2" 17 year old looking forward to getting in the stand with his dad "one more time".

Anyone that says hunting and fishing together as a family doesn't pay dividends is foolish. While it's not at all a fool proof way to keep your kids straight, it's for sure a symptom of a man that's trying to do just that.

Congrats dude/enjoy your weekend.

Headed up to West Feliciana to my camp with my brother and nephews. One of them is 3 so he'll hang around the camp, watch football, and cook with me while his brother and dad hunts. We're going to build a little blind friday for my brother and the 9 year old to sit the saturday and sunday. Have pics of 8 different small rack bucks on this foodplot, but only have a single person tripod there.

Was pretty pumped about this.

Been trying to bond more with my stepson. He's been itching to get a buck so I've left two spots alone all bow season. Went and bought an expensive arse millenium stand so he would be comfortable and would spook anything coming in. Also had another spot with a ground blind and 2 bucks coming in.

He informed me tonight he rather go to his dads this weekend. Wouldn't bother me that much if his dad wasn't such a pos
