I'm not buying this at all. People think fast pace and they think hurry up offense, but fast pace is most commonly accomplished with transition offense which is set up by your defense. The way the team is forcing turnovers in preseason is an indication of the direction things are headed. They'll be disruptive and get quite a few points in transition leading to a faster pace. So Monty can "go fast" with the same philosophy he's always had of defense first. Defense first doesn't always have to look like the ugly 90's Knicks that got the rules changed.

The predictions are fair enough, imo. I just think the Pelicans will do better than most people suspect they will (barring substantial injury problems).

Totally agree. I'm kind of embarassed for some of these writers/commentators. It's obvious they don't know a hell of a lot about the roster. I suppose there's always a chance it can crash and burn but it's not happening. These are not a bunch of J.R. Smith characters. Sounds cliche but there are a ton of high characer guys on this team (Jrue, Ryno, AD, Smith, AR - hell almost everyone). The beauty of it all is Monty might not be the best X's and O's coach in the league but I think he's a man of character and, more importantly, players want to play for him.

I don't even know what this means. We are talking about a skinny center with one knee and no offensive game to speak of and a pick in the late teen's. I really couldn't care less if Jrue is an all star or not. With the weapons we should have, he probably won't score 18 a night. To base an opinion on him being an all star or not is just short sighted and dumb.

They need to learn to say yet hate the trade because it involved potentially losing a top 10 pick (won't happen). They don't hate Holiday for Noel. They hate the pick that's involved. But come the end of this year they won't hate it too much.

I'm loving AFA's role in the the starting group. Hell, with what he's been bringing as far as disruption this preseason, he'll be a huge boost to any unit's defense. He seems to have worked on improving his strengths as opposed to becoming something he's not.

that's basically the key
i truly believe 100% that holiday's efficiency was killed by doug collins' offense (which basically forced players to do every inefficient thing imaginable). more drives, more 3s, and fewer 18 foot jumpers should have his efficiency rise a good bit
evans had an 18.16 PER last year. that's pretty good, and his PER likely will rise if he's allowed to play the ball dominant role off the bench (like he did his rookie year as a 0-guard)

yes
the heat play fast, but only when they're getting deflections/steals or some good opportunities off rebounds
last year there was only one fast break bezerker team, and they fired their coach

I hadn't previously heard of the 0-guard before, so I looked it up. According to Bill Simmons the 0-guard is best paired with spot up shooters (Anderson and Morrow), a pick and pop forward (Davis or Smith), and a rebounder (Aminu). It seems like this team is a perfect fit for a 0-guard.

We definitely have to give him the whole season. This is the first time he's had talent since CP3 and DWest left.

I agree with this. We also need to go out and recruit ourselves a legitimate assistant coach by next year at least.

And I would fire Monty in a heartbeat for George Karl. Karl would be a perfect coach for the players we have.
If this team underachieves in the first half, I can see Monty gone. There is too much money locked up long term in the good, young players we have. If he shows no signs of making it work you have to make a move and look ahead to developing players and a new gameplan for the next 3-4 years
