While we are all stewing over this fiasco just a review on the historical side of the series:
Since I have been alive from the 1956 season to present we have 33W, 23L & 3T for a 56%W us, 39%W OM & 5%T. The decades breakdown is as such (us OM):
56-60's 4W 9L 2T
70's 8W 2L
80's 7W 2W 1T
90's 4W 6L
2000's 10W 4L
Games of note these:
Of course 59 B. Cannon & Co. drives a dagger through them ruining their perfect season and they return the dagger in 60 SB
60 they were undefeated & we came into Oxford with a 1-4 team and ruined their perfect season (10-0-1)
61 they again undefeated we W 10-7
64 D Moreau 2 pt conversion at the buzzer W 11-10
69 Arch give us only L 23-26 that put dagger to me
72 Last play W to B Davis 17-16
86 Inexplicable L 19-21 in TS the dagger back to us
90's Nothing very, they W 60%
2003 Their only shot at SECCG with Eli we stick the Dagger back in Oxford 17-14
2006 The great JR and co. struggle to 23-20W OT in TS
2012 We come back on ODB Jr. Cannonesque punt return the dagger to them
2013 Uggh!
The point this is over my lifetime OM and LSU have stuck the dagger in each other in heartbreak and is just the way football goes.
That said, no excuse for coming out flat Sat. with everything to play for and this on CLM as he addmitted; also he did not throw the 3 picks, this on ZM, and of course niether play defense so was a bad effort all around.
I say lets put this behind and get behind them for this stretch run for maybe a decent bowl matchup.
They will come out fired up the remaining games so lets
!!

Good write-up.
People seem to forget that this is what Ole Miss does--they screw up our season from time to time. We, in turn, do the same to them. It's a true rivalry, something that seems to have been lost on not only our current team but a lot of our fans as well.
That '86 game was unbearable. We had no business losing to them that year. Sound familiar?
It's the reason for the hate. But it ain't the end of the world.

Thanks, I may have left out some as the 97 dagger.
Yeah, that 86 was really bad!

quote:I wish the blowhards and "know it all" newcomer LSU fans and coaches could use this huge disappointing loss as a learning moment, to see what a real SEC rivalry is about. It is not about similar w/l records from year to year. It is more like a blood feud, and about relishing wrecking the opponent's season, playing beyond your ability and getting the job done. Ole Miss did it again, in part because IMO, some coaches on staff do not quite "get" the SEC culture they are coaching in and made a mistaken assumption that this game was another cupcake.

When they play LSU, Ole Miss is never a cupcake.

You have to remember the time management at the end of the game in 2009 with one second remaining...

The problem the "fans" of LSU have is that they don't seem to understand that although they view Ole Miss as a gimme game, it is still a fierce rivalry to the Rebels. And they still want to ruin LSU's season every chance they get.
Our players don't seem to understand that because they are constantly hearing about how important Bama is and how important TAMU is and Auburn. Ole Miss is an afterthought to them as well. So they don't come out fired up. They view the Rebels as beneath them and that is a very dangerous view to have in a rivalry.
Until the fans change their view on the Rebels, and instill that belief of an important game, we will keep having these uninspired performances and letdowns against them.

Exactly...we overlooked Ole Miss. That's why we lost the game. The atmosphere in Oxford from LSU fans was that this was a layup. But from the Ole Miss fans I was surrounded by, this was their big ticket game of the year.
A team with nothing to lose, is the most dangerous

Dinardo went 10-15 after the OM loss in 97, the week after beating #1 UF.
It was the beginning of the end for him frankly.
While I don't think that is the case currently, the coaches/team need to show max effort the rest of the way IMO
