Last year, Mett seemed to consistently overthrow Recievers in the long routes. Seems how was coached to put more air under the ball and let them make plays. Every Interception against Ole Miss was an under thrown pass. So Mett just needs to find the Happy mediam between the 2. He has the cannon...have confidence our Recievers will accelerate to the ball and stop the under throws.

Agree...every interception had the receiver stopping and coming back to try and catch the ball.

Mett has now had two bad games in a row.

I think he is hurting a little which is making him uncomfortable.

Generally speaking you're right. Last year too long, this year a bit short most of the time.

It looks like he's aiming his long throws. I still think there was lots of pressure on him from the coaches to actually throw those two balls in the EZ.

He just doesn't throw a good long ball. The one play where he should have under thrown it (because the DB/S was behind OBJ) he over threw it a bit causing the interception.

The problem was that someone should have told him that they were giving us the 10-15 yard buttonhook by the sidelines all night long. They were literally given us 10-15 yards on every pass play because they were terrified of us going long.

We should have just taken that all night and then run it down their throats when we got in the red zone.

But, Mett got impatient and wanted to go for it all. To me, that's a coaching issue. Someone should have sat Mett down after the first interception and told him "DO NOT THROW THE BALL OVER 15 YARDS unless there is a complete breakdown in coverage and your receiver doesn't have anyone withing 20 yards of him. Otherwise, just take the 10-15 yards they're giving you."

You make a good point. But if he is hurting he needs to stop trying to scramble and throw the ball away.

It appears to me that he MAY be holding the ball and not throwing it away to protect his stats. Just speculation on my part.

I think its been a season long problem. But everyone has ignored it because of the work 3 and 80 have done. But I would bet 60% of our passes more than 30 yards in the air have been underthrows forcing a jump ball

I think he's hurt...but I think he is also being coached this way.

All year long all our receivers have basically done is run these mid range hook/button routes where all Mett has to do is throw the ball up and let the WRs come back and jump up for it.

Ole' Miss was ready for that and took it away for the most part.

60%? I would say about 85%. This isn't about being hurt, he simply cannot throw the deep ball with any accuracy. Its been that way for 2 years. It is what it is. The guy is like a lot of strong-armed QB: Big arm, no touch.

That said, he throws the middle to deep crossing route and seam routes better than any one in the SEC. It's no coincidence that once LSU started going to those routes in the 2nd half that the passing game started clicking. Hell, LSU killed UGA on those routes. We'll probably see less deep balls and more crossing patterns the rest of the year. It's just so damn frustrating that it takes a loss to affect change, when its been clearly evident all season what your QB's strengths and weaknesses are.

The third interception was the product of an innate lack of sense, I'm afraid.

There was no reason to aim at OBJ. Just float it over to his left quite a bit and he would have easily outrun his defender for the catch.

That lack of sense, though, is not particular to Mettenberger. It's common among quarterbacks... they think they're good enough to throw perfect passes but their success rate would be greater if they incorporated simple physics into their long throws.
