Gun for the wife advice

I know there's a lot of knowledgeable posters here on the OB, so figured I would ask for some advice on a gun for the wife.
She is taking a CCW course in Mississippi, wants to carry because I work out of town a lot. I was thinking .380 for her, because she has shot my friend's wife's .380 and liked it. But she has shot .38 revolvers, my .45 M&P, my deer rifles, shotguns, etc...so she ain't scared of em. The only gun I've seen her shoot that she didn't feel comfortable with was an M&P .40, because it was snappy as hell. The more I think about it, the more I am leaning toward a compact 9mm.
Wondering if any of you have advice for us.

I'm a revolver fan, so my vote is an SP101 in 357 mag loaded with 38+p self defense loads.
I'm no self defense or CCW guru though. I just know that an SP101 with 38 loads is a very manageable gun to shoot and not too big to carry. You also have the option to stuff it full of full power .357 magnum loads if she gets comfortable enough for that.
Women often have trouble racking the slides on compact semi-autos, and they usually don't practice enough to be good at clearing jams quickly.
I'll difer to to self defense folks.

I taught her to use her right arm (the one holding the gun) by pushing forward with it while pulling back on the slide with her left, which helped. Kinda verified the "snappy .40 M&P" that she shot in the past. I thought it was snappy as well, and it's what led me to purchase the .45 M&P.
She is planning on carrying, but I may get her out on the range with a 9 mm Shield. Our friend has one that she has shot, and can shoot again for a test run. Last time, it was just a get together and shoot every gun he had. Maybe more of a concentration on a particular gun would do her more good.
And that also made me feel good that I taught her the right way to rack the slide. That's exactly how I showed her...pushing the gun away with the right hand. That will just take practice for her, I think.

I find the shield to be very easy to shoot compared to other compacts.

I find it annoying to rack the slide on my subcompact CC gun, so I do think that a revolver is a good way to go.
As far as the .380, I'm a fan of just stepping up to the 9mm. I'm only getting a .380 if I really feel like I need a tiny gun. I don't think the 9mm is too powerful for a girl by any means.

A S&W revolver is 100% reliable and the safest gun you can own. Unless she is very proficient and practices on a regular basis, I do not recommend any semi automatic.

It had been a while since I shot a revolver, and I thought it was awful. It was better shooting .38 loads thru it, but she still couldn't hit shite with it.

The M&P45 would actually be a great gun for her to learn on since it is so large. And like I said in the video, a full sized handgun is the best starting place for a woman to learn shooting a handgun.
Not many people start with this technique from the beginning and it really helps them to use the muscles in their shoulders rather than the muscles in their forearms. Good on for starting that from the beginning.
Do you know what method she plans on carrying? That will have a lot of variance in the size of pistol she can carry. But I think a good 9mm will be best for her since you get much more capacity than a 38. Then again, a 38 is no slouch either.
Let us know what you end up doing.
