Astros will pursue Abreu

Wow, I don't know if this is a PR move or if Crane is realizing if he wants a TV deal he is going to have put some super stars on the field fast, but this kid would be a huge difference maker.

I'd rather tank a couple more years and build a super farm and then take over the AL with a vengeance.

Some of the Astros young guys will start showing up in the spring and through the summer.

I don't think they will be able to tank like they have the last three years anymore.

they are going to make a move to improve at the ML level this year. you will see them spend ona few bullpen arms and possibly a stop gap outfielder on a short contract. It would be interesting if they pulled the trigger on a big fish like Abreu because he woiuld lock down 1b for a long time and easily fit in the middle of the lineup.

Would be awesome...but I just can't see it. A move like that doesn't fit into Luhnow's plan at all.

And where does that leave Singleton?

I don't want to pay a couple of big names and improve to 70 wins. For me, if you aren't going to be there at the end to win the division and contend for a pennant then winning 55 games is the same as winning 81.

These farm guys will start making their way up and cohesively grow the team and organization the way we did the first time around. The wins will start piling up each year. I hope so anyway, because my favorite sport has only lasted Feb to June the last 7 years.

Astros are a joke of a franchise. Houston doesn't support the baseball team. Nobody even watches the games.

My dad lives literally across the street from the stadium and went to exactly 0 games. Nobody goes.

Considering the Astros won 51 games, consider that a miracle.

Well that's just false.

Houston is like any other pro sports town (outside of the NFL).

If team is winning people will go to games if not they wont. Pretty simple and happens every where outside of a couple of teams (Yanks and Sox).

Go Stros shake the haters off.

Also, I would watch the games but the CSN crap is not worked out sooooooo I can't.

I think the Astros were shocked at how low their support fell this past season, and embarrassed at a lot of the publicity it generated.

This isn't Kansas City after all - this is one of the largest markets in America, and one of the most powerful cities in the world.

The Astros need to put on their big boy pants and spend money to make money. Start winning in the process. It's not that difficult of a concept.

Excellent addition of new information to this thread. Congrats to your father for living in downtown Houston.
