Good. frick those commie pricks a Buffalo Trace. This is just karma for their numerous past transgressions. Namely the discontinuation of Old Charter 10 and the removal of the handle from their handles of Charter.

If Pappy isn't in the subject line, it is a non-story...

It's the 2nd most sought after bourbon in the world, behind the Pappy 23-year.

It's not strange to see people asking (and getting) $1,000 per bottle.

But is it just supply/demand, or is it really worth the price taste wise? I'm legitimately asking because I'd never be able to afford it to try.

I did see in the running bourbon thread that NOLAGT was expecting a shipment this week. Hmmm.......

I'll even admit there's a bit too much hype associated with tracking it down. Over the last year or so of the "bourbon boom," long-aged (15-23 years) bourbon has become such a limited commodity, because in the 90's, no one wanted bourbon as much....so supply/demand is part of it.

As far as the taste, it's all a matter of preference. The Van Winkle juice is more of a wheated bourbon, which some people like (I'm partial) but others don't enjoy as much a a rye or other type of whiskey.

Would I pay $1,000 for a bottle? No way...

Did I enjoy finding a bar in Denver that served the 15-year for $12/glass? You bet...

The list price on a bottle of the 23-year is about $275, which is extremely fair and about as much as I'd ever spend on a bottle of booze.

Anything higher than that is crazy talk...hope that explanation helps...

Is OC a north LA thing? I never see south LA people drink it.

It's definitely more of a staple up here in the North LA. Especially the NE/Delta region of LA. But it is available in South LA. I've bought it many times.

There are lots of places in the America that have never heard of Old Charter.. Sucks for them...

I never heard of it until I went to LA Tech. I also found it odd that all the OC 12 yr "connoisseurs" were the first ones to drown it in Coke.
