Colston's lack of production

I know that Jimmy has become the go to receiver but I am wondering if Colston has some nagging injury that is slowing him down. He seems to have become a non-factor in the offense lately, compared to what he used to be. I could be completely wrong and defenses are just scheming him out leaving everyone else open.

i think it's only this
Colston is the #3 option right now behind Graham and Sproles

I buy that Jimmy and Sproles are the go to options, they are the ones who with the ball in their hands can make a huge play.
However with the attention they draw that should mean Colston is having a lot of 1v1 that he's obviously just not winning or else he'd get the ball more consistently.

That is what has led me to think he has an undisclosed injury or was just never fully healthy from the start of the season.

quote:Yeah, I went into yesterday's game feeling like Colston should have a big day. With the attention Graham was getting, Colston should have thrived. Not sure if Drew is not looking his way or not. Brees does seem to have developed tunnel vision for Graham and needs to go elsewhere sometimes.

It really just doesn't seem like we are looking to go to him as much this year. That could be due to Graham and Sproles increased roles or possibly Colston slowing down a bit, but it is concerning. Hopefully he can have a breakout game soon.

Colston doesn't do a ton of beating his man badly. a big portion of his catches come with tight coverage..he's been a tight window, tough catch guy for Brees...at this point in their careers, Graham when healthy, is better for that -- at least in the coaches/DB's eyes.

I feel like a lot of Colston's catches are in the middle of the field on short/intermediate routes and quick streaks. That sounds just like Jimmy Graham's routes.

remember. he had a foot injury at the beginning of the season

I remember that hampered him through camp and he didn't practice much. I wouldn't be shocked to learn that this has bothered him through the year.

the foot injury is nothing new for Colston...he's produced consistently his entire career with injuries.
Graham's just better at this point...like AJF said, Graham's just taking Colston's plays and targets.
if Graham misses any time, Colston will do his thing...and he'll still make big catches as always

He is making catches when the ball comes his way. The quiet storm just keeps doing his thing

Graham and Sproles are the biggest mismatches on the field, only natural we go their way a bunch.
It also doesn't help that not one of our receivers can get separation. They are blanketed every route unless it's a blown coverage in zone.

why don't you quote your source on your comment, and not make it sound your own. Mike Detellier sad this very thing 6am this morning on wwl.

Colston is maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad slow. He has blocking Tight End speed. I 4get he is on the field half the time.

He's only been unproductive two games.

Would not be surprised if he is playing dinged up. The guy takes more hits and keeps going than prolly any Saints WR in history. Ultimate gamer. Remember when he broke his collarbone? He was back on the field in what, three weeks?
That said I'm more concerned about the longer term. Specifically production to cost ratio. Not many WRs get better after passing age 30. His cap cost was $3.3mil in 2012 and $4.5mil this year. His cap hitt going forward-
Age/Cap Cost
31/$8.3mil
32/$9.7mil
33/$10.5mil
Blasphemy perhaps to some but I'd love to see Toon step up and replace his role. His contract TOTALS $1.4mil for 2014 & 15.

Didn't know detellier was the only one who was allowed to have an idea regarding the Saints
For the record I was taking my morning dump at 6am and I consider my self on par with ESPN so I don't have to credit sources. Also frick off
