Yeah I remember when they sued right after it happened. Was surprised that he was gonna get the Hanks hero treatment when I saw the commercial.

Who cares. Sometimes the true story is boring.

I don't know why you're laughing at Hollywood. Hollywood is the one laughing since the movie did great during its opening weekend.
And don't be ignorant. They knew about the disputes surrounding the story from the beginning. They just chose to make the story they wanted to make.

So was Argo and that movie was fantastic.

Rudy was one big lie as well. Such is Hollywood's way of creating false heroes.

This is serious... they are advertising the movie as based on REAL LIFE EVENTs.
Cmon guys, this is serious misinformation, and an attack against TRUE American heroes.
Y'all were just going to believe in the Phillips mirage, and I opened your eyes to the truth.
No need to thank me.
ETA: I suck at sarcasm.

The key word here is "based", which should tell you that some things may not be entirely true.

This. Everything originating from Hollywood should be assumed as being made up for the purposes of selling tickets. If it's based on a true story, it doesn't mean any of the movie is based on that truth.

It's not a documentary.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based on actual events, too.

I heard that Yoda wasn't really as helpful as he was portrayed, that Batman was rude to Alfred and Reagan's head didn't really turn all the way around as shown in the Exorcist.
It is a movie!
It is a movie!

And millions will be made from this movie. What lesson will they learn from this? Go spin another well known story and make more money.

So was the hills have eyes
And the only factual event was that the military did weapons testing there.

Captain Phillips;
Maybe it is an attempt to justify the actions by the crew at the time?
Ever read up on Sgt York and the making of the movie, just say Hollywood had to pay off all the members in the action with York.
Everyone in his on mind played a larger roll than the US Army account of the action. The only changes in real life to the Sgt York movie are:
York used a 45 to kill the Germans charging him, not a Luger.
York did like the movie showed use a Springfield and not the Eddystone (York was issued the Springfield as the company sniper).
The Germans did not have trenches like the movie showed, they had MG nest with fire teams between the nest in foxholes, and the action is in a lightly forest area.
The rest is very close to the action, as York and the squad rounded the hill in an undefended area and came up behind the Germans.
But like the York movie how many of the crew where paid off and not paid off is the question.

That's kind of odd. I remember after it happened on live TV one of the crew calling him a hero and he saved their lives.
Once the movie and book deals roll in they change their minds? :dunno"

Yeah...that's what I'm saying. This happened 4 years ago and not a one of the crew came public with a contradiction to the official story, supposedly because they all decided to keep their mouths shut. But now that their captain has a book and movie coming out about him, they decide it's time to set the record straight? Yeah. Whatever. The events may not have happened as we were led to believe but to 100% trust his crew as they conveniently come out of the wood work around the movie's release date would be a folly.
