This Tiger Stadium problem was years in the making (long)

This is what happens when you go totally corporate and ruin the game day experience.
1. Had to start tradition fund and priority points. I understand and agree with it. We are in an arms race and without the money, you don't compete in the SEC. But then they started pushing the regular fans away. Let us count the ways.
2. First noticed it when they changed the coaches show. Used to be you could show up at Superior or Walk On's and get in the same room as the coach. Hell, at Superior you could get next to Saban if you got there early enough. Last time I went to Walk On's, entire room with Miles was "reserved" for corporate. Yup, had to sit in next section no matter how early you were.
3. Same thing happened at the recruiting bash. One nice thing about the bash was it put LSU football up close with the fans. I remember at Miles's first one, we were sitting on the front row. Now, the fans are pushed way back for corporate tables.
4. Fast forward to last year. Wait a second. People tailgate on campus? Lets charge them $40 a spot and gouge them some more. Average fan that wants to drive out there early to go to game and not spend $200 on one day just for himself now has to choose, hmmm.... ticket or parking. NOt saying he can't afford it but it does lower the threshold for the "screw it" factor.
5. Then there is the game itself. Piped in music ruins the atmosphere. Can't play Neck or Tiger Rag but we can play fricking techno or rap. More traditions destroyed. Yes, the students got out of hand on those two songs but come on, where I sat I never heard the cursing. Speaking of band...
6. Morehouse doesn't get job and now the band is on a decline. That has already been discussed on TD but its one more chip on the game day experience.
7. Then there are the students. They make it difficult to get tickets, search them at the gates, and worry so much that they might actually drink. Can't have that. Guess what? Students say screw it too. Take away the traditions and guess what? They now have nothing to tie them to the game. They can listen to techno on their headphones while watching the game at home with a drink in hand if they want to.
So now you get a subpar game day experience for the fans at what used to be the premier event in college football. A Duke AD who totally does not get major college football has taken steps that repeatedly push fans away and surprise, LSU has a problem filling the stands for big games and feels more corporate. One wonders is he once worked for GM or hired some people from Blackberry to screw things up.
They've gouged the fans, pushed them away, and taken away things they enjoy and now we have CBS calling us out on national tv. Good job, Joe. Good job.
Edit: Response on page 9.

I do remember in particular the 1996 Kentucky game.
I sat in a packed out south end zone in the last couple minutes of the game with LSU up 41-14 and fans screaming bloody murder not to let Kentucky score 20.
No, back in the day, the stadium did not empty out like it does today.

tl;dr, but here's the solution.
If you want to go to the game, buy a ticket and go to the game.
If you don't want to go to the game, don't buy a ticket.
If you want to buy a ticket and go to the game and leave early, buy a ticket and arrive and leave whenever you please.

Price honestly has nothing to do it with, TAF may have run some fans out but you can still find tickets for 30-40 bucks on game day. Issue is every game is on TV so there is no need to go to the stadium and watch the game when I can stay home, not deal with the headaches associated with going to a game, and get a better view

This is happening all over the SEC. Living in Florida my wife (Uf Grad) and I had season tickets at UF. We let them go this year because it simply was no longer fun.

Agreed.. And you didn't even really touch on the bullshite outside of the stadium.
Blocking off roads and making it a pain in the arse to get around campus.
Oo no, you can't go this way!!
College football, as a whole, needs to start catering to the ticket holder.. Instead of being an aggravation

I wasn't just talking about tickets.

they need to fix the traffic issues
People get worn out trying to make in and out...
If it was Bama, they make it in

quote:Good point. If so many people are ok buying tickets and not being there the whole game, then capacity would be maximized by a smaller stadium and higher ticket prices.

MOTHEREFFIN' this!!! The gestapo cops go out of their way to make fans miserable just trying to get to campus.

I had fun today but fvck - so many empty seats.

That ties in to what I am saying even though I disagree with it. Sterilize the experience in the stadium. Gouge 'em for parking, then totally F up the traffic.
At some point people say to hell with it.

As long as they are making money, and LSU is making A LOT of money, it will stay the same or "get worse." Unfortunately, a sign of the times.

TAF control + corporate ticket purchasing + pay to park parking prices + traffic control + students from a new era + tv = problems with the crowds at TS
Posted on 10/12/13 at 6:26 pm to LSURussian
explain how the blocking off of the roads has changed since not everyone knows, believe it or not. please.

Guys: if you don't like ticket prices, or stadium experience, or parking experience....... DON'T GO.
It's pretty simple?
