For the last few years we've seen different articles, heard other fan base claims, and even witnessed to varying degrees the emergence of other NFC south teams.

First and foremost it was Ryan and his ascent to the NFLs elite and how the falcons are the team that will be in the nfcs race for the long haul.

Then it was Freeman and the young weapons Tampa had that had a very bright future. Next it was Cam who would revolutionize the position...

Now...the falcons have paid Ryan 100 plus million and he more than likely will not get another playoff shot with Gonzales ,roddy is aging and has I believe one more year after that, Julio may have compromised his surgically repaired foot and while he will recover,he will need to be PAID on his next contract. The falcons o line is in shambles , they will likely not get the results they were hoping for from osi or s jax and will have to go into a sort of rebuild as they are thin at o line, d line, rb, TE going into next year. Seems like the all in mentality may be over.

The bucs have a very nice young roster but their coaching and leadership is in turmoil and they will likely make a change. I think they are a qb away from being a legit challenger for multiple division titles if they can hold that defense together on some of the second contracts that should be coming soon. I would bet the farm they are going qb with this deep class coming in.

The panthers have developed a seemingly elite front 7 but lack the offensive weapons the bucs have. While the jury is still out on cam he definitely isn't progressing like panthers fans would like I'm sure. They will likely be moving on from the big rb contracts they dished out and should have a new coach next year as well. Whether that coach buys into the cam experiment remains to be seen.

On the home front we have seemingly moved on from the old defensive guard and have multiple guys at each level in their early to mid 20s making plays every week. We have new receivers developing and a top 3 receiving weapon in the league. We have a legit top 5 qb who for the first time in awhile seems to not feel that the entire burden is on him(through his play/not his words).

Our biggest weakness is one that seems relatively easy to solve going forward. You can find power backs and road graders a lot easier than you can many positions in the draft. I like our chances to have a solid 3 year window of having a really good shot at the whole damn thing.

No. In fact, what?
What do any of the items you pointed out have anything to do with SP?

He's the CEO of this team. All the other franchises in the division have crashed and burned and we're marching right through it.

Plus it's a play on the stupid Bama fans and their Saban love.

It's not our RBs. We need to upgrade our O-line. We will also need a CB replacement for Greer soon.

I think we've got about 5 maaaaaybe 6 more years of Brees as we know him until age starts to catch up. I think we can absolutely think we can make it to and maybe even win at least two Super Bowls.

When you think about it...we probably could have even made some noise last year with Payton.

I know that's why I said road graders . Easier to find the big mauling type of lineman than the elite pass protection guy. It also wouldn't hurt to have a big back drafted later.

We will definitely need a second corner at some point as well.

Our problem last year was Spags. The offense was fine and the only reason we even managed 7 wins. Payton would have been good for a win or two maybe, but we weren't winning a SB with Spags as the DC.

I agree with a lot of what you said in the body of the message, but as DD noted, the title is very misleading.

Getting to the content of the post... The Bucs are hindered at head coach too. Schiano is bad, he doesn't have the support from the player base from what I can tell. The team continues to shoot themselves in the foot week after week with penalties, and apparently they haven't learned. It's cost them at least 2 games this year. He's not the man for the job there in Tampa, pure and simple.

Carolina is like Tampa 2 years ago. Like Tampa with Freeman, they are a couple of years behind learning that Cam Newton is not the answer at QB.

I think Atlanta will hold onto Mike Smith at least another year, especially if they squeak into the playoffs. I don't think the Falcons end the season near as bad as they started it. Probably 10-6 or 9-5. I think they'll be in a 3 way battle for the last wildcard slot with a NFC-N and NFC-W team (probably Bears and Cardinals). I think the 49ers lock up the 1st WC pretty easily.

I really think giving Ryan the contract they did wasn't a terrible thing for that team. He'll continue to improve and grow, and by the time Atlanta gets wise and gives Smith the boot, he'll make that team a contender again.

I think 5 or 6 maybe a bit of a stretch but I do like that he isn't reliant on a big arm. If we give him a little more o line help I also don't see why he can't age like Warner/manning and evolve into a quicker releasing, shorter throwing qb. I was being conservative with 3 as we will probably have some significant turnover after that.

For some reason, I actually think Payton may stick around post brees now. Dude is fit as hell and I have full confidence he could develop another guy one day.

So you think the falcons are gonna go 9-2?

With GB, SF, Seattle, us all on the schedule yet?

I have heard that he has a condition in his contract that he can leave after ownership changes (must have something to do with him not liking Rita). I have a feeling when Drew rides off into the sunset, we lose CSP.

Yes, they will improve. That is still a good team, even with Jones injured.

I think they lose to 2 of those 3 games, and they have a good shot at winning against us still.

Ehhh. I'm sure they will improve somewhat but Roddy is in bad shape too. He is only 50/50 for week seven. Their o line isn't getting any better and they don't have a pass rush to begin with. They are regressing to the mean from all those close wins they have had over the last few years. At full talent they are likely a 10 win team IMO

I thought that this thread was about the 2009 New England game. Yes, CSP made them quit.

As far as the NFC South is concerned, no other team has an Elite Coach or QB. We have both. We just need a competent D to be dangerous and now it seems we have a good D to go with our elite O.

It was really just worded that way to lure falcons fans out of their holes.

From what we've seen, yes they are capable of winning those games. All of their losses have been down to the wire. Given that, they also are capable of LOSING all of those games and then some.

To expect them to go 9-2 or 8-3 the rest of the way is taking a huge leap, especially with the recent injury news. Sure they are capable, but everything would have to go their way. I think finishing 8-8 is reasonable for them.
