Obama met with Krauthammer yesterday

hmmmm, interesting....

I've always thought Krauthammer to be spot on with his analysis. I'm guessing Obama was trying to get insight? No way he is stupid enough to call them in and attempt to lecture them and spin them to his side, right?

quote:

President Obama held an off-the-record meeting with five conservative journalists on Tuesday afternoon.

Present at the meeting were Charles Krauthammer, the Washington Post columnist and Fox News contributor; Paul Gigot, the Wall Street Journal editorial page editor; Robert Costa, the National Review's Washington editor; syndicated columnist Kathleen Parker; and Washington Examiner columnist Byron York, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting.

Obama is such a ego maniac he truly believes he can talk anyone into his beliefs.

Remember the world tour, he thought if he could talk to everyone then surely he the great one could convince them.

Problem is he is normally talking to the low educated sheeple who vote for him. Once he is put in a room where he isn't the smartest he is exposed.

I imagine he honestly thought he could just pick up the phone and talk with the leaders of Iran and the next day they would start buying American oil.

It was "Off the record", but I'll be interested as to what Krauthammer has to say about it.

Obama is an egotistical maniac and I wouldn't put it past him to try to berate them into seeing his side, but I would bet that he brought them there asking "How can we settle this where I come off looking good and your readers would be happy"

If it's off the record, I don't think he'll be saying much of substance about it. He seems to be an honorable man.

Haven't listened to Krauthammer lately. What's his stance on the shutdown? TIA

That explains why lately Krauthammer has been declaring Republicans to have lost the shutdown debate. Wonder what his payoff was.

I agree with you about Obama having a naïve belief in the power of personal persuasion. The problem is that some people can't be persuaded because they have a fundamental principles that are at odds with your principles. LBJ understood this and acted accordingly. Guys like Krauthammer can't be persuaded because they view the world differently than Obama.

This is bull shite.

This makes no sense. Iran is an oil exporter and the U.S. is an oil importer. If Obama wants to do business with Iran, talking isn't even necessary, all he needs to do is lift the sanctions on them because the U.S. has sanctions on Iran, Iran doesn't have sanctions on the U.S.

You guys make this way too personal. Kinda why the independent vote gets scared off from time to time.

Maybe Russia will buy our vodka and Mexico our Tequila too. Oil is kinda an international commodity anyway.

Ok, maybe I am confused, but I always thought of "Off the record" as the reporter being able to discuss things, he just couldn't attribute any quotes to the official....

I think Kraut will discuss what they talked about, but I don't think he would get into the nitty gritty.

So he meets with Conservative journalists, but not the GOP.

Makes perfect sense!

Krauthammer's been on the "let Obamacare get fully implemented so it can implode for all the world to see" bandwagon for some time. I suspect that Obama's trying to get info from them as to whether there's any "cracks" in the GOP relative to the shutdown and debt ceiling so that he can exploit them. Expect some "one on one" meetings between Obama's "people" and certain GOP house members promising the Moon if they abandon Boehner.

This. Krauthammer is off base lately. He is totally against the shutdown in any capacity and has the stance of a typical establishment Republican. He completely misses that Cruz and others like him simply want the Republicans to mount a genuine fight on behalf of individual liberty. Boehner and McConnell have been putting on a show for too long.

As for Obama, I think he senses that Krauthammer is for the Republicans giving in so he's trying to court him to pile on with the rest of the media.

Krauthammer is outcome oriented. Obama is intent oriented. The way to persuade Krauthammer is for Obama to demonstrate good intent will reliably lead to positive outcome. Obama has zero interest or capacity in doing that.

I'm thinking you're right. But in this case, were any officials other than Obama there? If not, anything about the general discussion will be attributed to Obama, I would think. Don't know if that would violate "off the record" or not. Just guessing here.
