BCS Rankings or Committee?

This thread is not to argue for or against a playoffs, just how the teams are selected.
Obviously most of the BCS controversy stemmed from having only two teams in the national championship hunt, post season. In most years, there was one or two teams that many people thought should also be in the national championship game.
Is the only point of this "committee approach" to make sure an undefeated non-BCS conference team that would be, perhaps, outside the top 4 in the final rankings gets a chance at the natty?
How many years has there been someone outside the top 4 in the final BCS rankings that had true reason to cry foul for being left out.
Why not just keep the BCS rankings and take the top 4? I don't see undefeated Boise or Louisville being left out of the top 4 in the BCS if voters knew that top 4 made the playoffs.
I just don't agree that Condoleezza Rice, Archie Manning, and Arkansas' athletic director will do a better job than the BCS rankings. I also don't agree that they will do a better job at giving these small school undefeateds a fair chance.
To be fair, undefeated Boise was #5 in 2006.

Anything but computers - which spit out what you put in - and coaches with a vested interest in their own team.

I agree. I hate how arguments over how many teams should be involved in the post season turned into a dozen or so people "picking" who makes the semifinals.

At least that had hundreds of people involved. These are a dozen people, all with their own vested interests. Yes, there are current athletic directors on this committee.

They are equally incompetent.
