Obama counting on media to blame GOP

quote:

MSNBC analyst admits president has ‘no incentive’ to negotiate on budget

(News Busters) – The list of things on which Barack Obama has been wrong goes on to the crack of doom. But there’s one thing on which the President is surely right. In devising his strategy for dealing with the shutdown, the prez can count on the MSM to blame Republicans.

Mark Halperin bared the president’s calculus on today’s Morning Joe, saying the Obama admin has little incentive to negotiate because it believes a “sympathetic” press will blame Republicans like they did in the 1990s, accusing them of being “obstructionist.” View the video after the jump.

Halperin offered what amounted to an indictment of MSM bias. But no one on the panel made a peep. They apparently just took it as a given that is neither controversial nor objectionable.

WILLIE GEIST: Mark, at this point then, what is President Obama’s incentive to negotiate? Because if he sits there, the law that he championed and the law that he got passed and the law that was upheld by the Supreme Court will go into effect. If he doesn’t — if he doesn’t give anything up on this he gets what he wants. Why does he negotiate with Republicans?

MARK HALPERIN: Here what’s the White House and to some extent the Hill is going to monitor. One is how the press covers the shutdown and does it just go back into the ’90s mode of saying obstructionist Republicans are causing a shutdown and people, real people are hurting? And the White House is assuming that’s going to happen. Then they’re going to watch the polls and see whether it’s not just partisan. Whether by the end of the week there are surveys that show public/private, that people are blaming Republicans and that that’s going to put pressure on Boehner to come to the floor and either force his — some members of his own conference beyond the handful who will never be with him on this to have a compromise. So they don’t have to capitulate on the floor. They don’t let Nancy Pelosi dictate what gets passed. So the White House does not have much incentive. Because they think–they think–those trends are going to go in their direction by the end of the week or early next week at the latest because again, the press is largely sympathetic to their arguments on this that it’s the House Republicans’ fault.

Beware of faux media polls.

Ooops they forgot to 'fix' this poll.

I personally think the Repubs are babies on most fronts, but they may have accidentally done something right...

With this fight going down now, it is becoming the perfect storm:

Obama is coming across as a whiney baby
Obamacare exchanges are failing miserably
People are realizing prices aren't any better through exchanges

Put all of it together and I think people are beginning to wake up and realize that things aren't the way dear leader and his media are spinning it.

. . . and the GOP has fallen into a much more reasonable position.

Exactly.

I agree. The pubs are derelict in their duties to represent us. I don't think the establishment GOP cares and are as bad as the dems. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are not stupid. I posted a letter I got from my establishment GOP Senator. The McCain's of the GOP party saw that calling Cruz and Paul wacko-birds is not PC nor appropriate with America. The tea party is not going away. Cruz and Paul may be the only real hope, of change.

He and Harry and other minions have already spoken and said that such is fact and the media has once again taken on the chore of carrying the water uphill for him. As the Demons continue to proclaim that the only source for solutions can come from their side of the aisle and they have no desire to even think of any cause for cooperation, the medias voice will just gain in volume.

Demons tend to be deceptive in proportions that are unprecedented in the press literally campaigning for a political party; outright before the world to see. But the filthy liars always lose in the end. The jig is up. CNN/ORC poll at the beginning of this failed to convince people. They can't fool all of the people all of the time.

The truth be known. Obama and the progressives are scared shitless of the tea party. Who will stop Obama from utilizing government agencies to silence the tea party? Name calling and simply calling the tea-party dumb nazi's won't work alone.

Cantor has always been waiting in the wings. So much going on everyone tends to forget that Boehner nearly lost his speaker position last vote. He will lose it for sure now. Anyone know if Cantor is any good? The only one I truly trusted was DeMint and he had Lee replace him. So if the GOP is lucky Lee will bump Cantor out, if Cantor is just another Boehner/McCain type.

ETA Cantor

I am sure everyone will remember how many media members have ties, or have been hired by this administration.

I still think they would have gotten more mileage if the exchange frickup was front and center as opposed to the shutdown.

IMO,

This is what made Clinton a political machine.

He was always at the table negotiating, no matter what.

Obama is a petulant child. Obama is exactly what I would expect if several Prog posters on this board became POTUS.

You are a good poster, but on this you are delusional. Citizens should be noticing the failure of Obamacare, but instead the news is 110% about the shutdown. Repubs are getting crushed. Independents don't like this move.

They need to call Reid out on his bluff, pass a clean CR for another 6 months and then "negotiate" on Obamacare. If they get anything, they can call it a victory; if they get nothing they can Obama and Reid liars. It's the only way I out of this dead-end tactic with minimal consequences for the mid-terms.
