1.Biggest reason for optimism about the Tiger's D is that they can't play any worse. Well its true.

2.Second biggest reason for optimism about the Tigers D, is how much LSU players respect the legacy Chavis built at LSU. The LSU D will return with a vengeance, you couldn't pay me to play offense for Miss ST next week.

3.Third biggest reason for optimism is that every person gets humbled sometime in their life. And while some people crumble and accept failure, those with higher character use it as a driving force to succeed. So I already know how LSU's players will respond.

4.Fourth biggest reason for optimism is that no one knew LSU's real weakness when it went undefeated in 2011, until it was too late in the championship game. This year LSU knows and its not too late for it to be fixed.

When it comes to sunshine pumping concerning LSU, I'm on 24hr call.

Hope you are correct. LSU knew about the weaknesses in 2011, just didnt think they would face the same team twice.

Damn, there's so much sunshine pumping in that post, I had to go put my sunglasses on. My own P & G glasses were no match for your overwhelming display of true team loyalty.

UGA'a offense is good, especially against youth on the road. UGA put up 400 yds on Bama's defense last year and they weren't too shabby.

LSU's defensive players lost focus of their responsibilities for whatever reason. I had a 10 lb bass on a line whose head was so huge it startled me and I knew exactly how I was suppose to reel him in but in the excitement I choked and lost him. It happens.

I do think that if the defense had to get embarrassed this year, the UGA game was the right game. It is early enough to correct mistakes and team focus while allowing for the team to recover if they win the rest of their contests. There is still a chance to compete for a championship. Hopefully the entire team and certainly the defense will accept the wake-up call and perform at a level that the fans think they are capable.

Well I agree with all of this except the first one. It could get worse, but I do think they will play better. We'll see how they respond this Saturday.

i agree. on another post someone was complaining because the players were expressing frustration. it's like when they asked spurrier about his coaches fighting on the sideline and he remarked "At least they care."

these guys do care, and will work to get better.

really good news - they don't have to get drastically better. any improvements with this offense will be great and should pay big dividends.

Games like Georgia happen. But really is concerning is the total lack of a pass rush.

That is what concerns me the most. The DBs may play better if they don't have the breakdowns, but not having a pass rush is much harder to fix. It's more about winning one on one battles.

The defense was never going to be elite this year due to inexperience. If there is a reason for optimism, this is about the time of year that freshmen who are truly special start "getting it". Last year with Turner and Alexander on the o-line is a good example. Hopefully this is about the time Beckwith, Robinson, Bower, Neal, Bain, etc. start providing positive contribution.

The big fear is there isn't a coach on the field, a la Minter, Sheppard, Reid.

I suspect LSU's coaches realize they have to tweak things on defense, thankfully we have some games to prepare before we meet another team efficient in their passing game. They better be preparing, some great ones are coming on this schedule.

My 2 biggest concerns are the D is not young as everyone keeps saying. People act like we are starting 5 true freshman.

The other is the defensive line and depth. We get absolutely no push and doesn't appear to be much depth either.

INEXPERIENCED...age doesn't mean dick if you haven't played much. Again, here is the combined starts by position at the start of the season...

ForeLSU is spot on. As we perpetually generate experience we should get better and better. Perhaps a bit more rotating on the DL to give Ego and freak a blow every now and then. Is LaCouture hurt?

no, just hasn't been that affective. He played some last week, as did Thomas.

Good on you for sunshine pumping but there isnt anything of substance in your post

With that, here's hoping for an improved defensive performance against State
