I'm not here blaming the DB problems on Raymond, but if this becomes a trend I can see him on his way out. I know Ryan has expressed interest in coaching when he retires and where better to start then at DBU, even if its not the DB coach right away more of an assistant. Plus I think it would be a great tool for recruiting.

I'd be stunned if he doesn't go into broadcasting when he retires.

Sorry, but if Raymond were to be replaced I would want an experienced guy to come in. Not someone just for the reason he was really good in the NFL and he played at LSU.

What makes you think he would be a good coach? If he didn't play at LSU would you think the same?

I know he has expressed interest in coaching. And I understand he doesn't have experience that's why I said to bring him in as an assistant and maybe he can learn under someone and maybe that's Raymond. And yes part of the reason I think he would want to come coach at LSU is because he went to LSU.....

He would be a good defensive coach because hes the coach on the field for legendary DC Dick lebeau. To start for 10 years at S for a Dick LeBeau D you better be a very smart player and know the defense and how to set the team up. Clark does just that. He def knows Defense.

That said, Im pretty sure Clark already has something lined up with ESPN where he goes and works for them when he retires.

Probably have a better chance to get Corey Webster than Clark.

So you want to bring in a former NFL player with no coaching experience to learn under a coach you think may be let go if our defensive backs continue to struggle all becuause you contend he has expressed an interest in coaching and played at LSU.

I said even if it is under Raymond, not saying it had to be. Read the preface when I said, Im not blaming Raymond for the struggles. So you're telling me you would be upset if they brought him in as an assistant DB coach and don't think he would be a help with recruits....? If so then you're

This is directed towards TorNation:
He is a very smart player and has probably had some of the best defensive coaching, so why cant he bring that knowledge here. How do you think other coaches gain knowledge and experience, reading "Coaching for Dummy Books" or coaching their kids PeeWee team like you?

Doesn't mean shite if he can't teach...probably 90% of the major college coaching hires go to guys "who know the game". The good ones are the folks who are able to effectively communicate that knowledge to their players. Unfortunately, Ryan wouldn't be able to be out on the field to line our players up if what he is teaching doesn't take.

They had him on TV during Super Bowl time. I thought he was very good. Could see him doing TV work after he hangs it up.

Coaches have stated in the past that Clark would make an excellent coach.

He's on ESPN quite a bit and I believe he now has a segment once a week on NFL Live. They definitely seem to be grooming him for a future in TV.

Did I ever say we should get him? No. All i said was that hes a smart D player, who has been trained by 1 of the best, if not the best DC in the history of football and that he would make a good defensive coach.

And I seriously doubt that Ryan Clark would have a problem communicating his knowledge of the game with our players. Hes been telling players what to do for 10 years. And, hes BEEN a player. Meaning he knows how to communicate with players because he is/was a player in modern day football.

And if you can communicate with college players you can teach them what you want.

Am I saying we should go get Ryan Clark as a coach as soon as he retires? No. But, i dont see how people dont think he would make a decent D coach. Hes been 1 of the smartest defensive players in the NFL the last 10 years. Talent wise, hes an average player. But what has made him a pro bowl and a 10+ year vet in the NFL is his understanding of the game and his leadership ability. And he also handles himself extremely well.

Also, after he was cut by the Giants he worked for TAF.

Heres his quote on communicating:
quote:

Lots of people know stuff but can't communicate it to others in a way that they can understand it and implement it into what they're doing. I have that gift and I was blessed to have that talent

I've been around the game long enough to know just because you receive good coaching doesn't make you a good coach. The point you really made that cracks me up is that with all the good coaching he has been around you want him to train under someone you think could be replaced due to poor coaching. Why would you want him to train under someone you perceive as a potentially poor coach?

I've said this many times in joking with a lot of people that I wanted to be the first black head coach at LSU. I think that would be a tremendous honor, it would be my alma mater, it's really important to me that the school does well and also be a part of history of that school would be awesome.

I recommend everyone to read that article posted above. Every coach, including Saban, LeBeau, Bill Cowher, and Tomlin all have told him they want to hire him as a coach when his career is over.
