The Tigers have allowed 931 yards of offense in the last 2 games, almost half a thousand to UGA and 437 to AU. And almost half a hundred points to UGA..

The Tigers are allowing an average of 346 yards per game- this even after playing 2 cupcakes, a historically bad Auburn, and an unimpressive TCU team.

Statistically, this is probably the worst LSU defense since 2008, scoring in the bottom half of the NCAA in these categories:

89th- red zone defense- no ability to stop teams from scoring
92nd in team sacks- no pressure on the QB
109th in tackles for loss- no defensive line push
61st in turnover margin- no takeaway ability

Amazingly, somehow this Tiger team is still rated 39th in total defense, mostly based on playing the cupcakes. If we had started out with a schedule as hard as UGA this year (or 2011's schedule), this would likely be the worst Tiger D in the modern era.

That makes my heart hurt.

Good thing the pumpers will come up with their justifications in 3...2...1....

We gave up a little more than this to UGA. But I get your drift.

On the bright side, we do get Furman in a few weeks.

not taking up for the defense, but Malzahn's offenses at Auburn have never been "historically bad"...

Such a fricking stupid argument as 90% of every team has played multiple cupcakes. Hell, some top 15 teams play nothing BUT cupcakes all fricking year.

What if we played in Div 2? Or! if we played teams of unicorns? How would our D rank in those fantasy scenarios?

Our D sucks arse this year. Those stats are glaring examples. Why you're nutting over the possibility of them doing worse is a mystery.

I hear what you are saying, but I guess I was talking about Auburn as a whole the last few years. But you are correct, Malzahn knows offense. We limited them to a goose egg in the first half though.

Who said I was? I'm not happy about it at all. Stop killing the messenger. My only point was, we haven't had a hard game until last night, and our defensive statistics still suck. I was trying to make a point that I guess made a left turn at your brain.

Yes, you are correct, we gave up 494 yards. 6 yards short of half a thousand.

SEC defenses definitely aren't playing like they have in the recent past. Bama did shut out Ole Miss last night though, so maybe they are improving.

Can this defense get better? Can the young DBs improve in coverage? Yes. Can the linebackers improve? Yes. We have to. I think the players and coaches have too much pride to not turn this around.

I wish we could chalk it up to just a bad day like Bama vs. A&M, but they shut out a team that will prob put up 35+ on us and we have been showing some signs of this in every game. The young guys just need time, but we don't have much. State is no cake walk with this version of the d.
