Baton Rouge was like a ghost town. I remember all the radio shows people were not mad, they were sad. It was like a funeral.

The beginning of this season is eerily similar. In 1998, LSU started highly ranked, beat a couple of weaklings, beat Auburn fairly comfortably, and went into the Georgia game ranked #6. Sound familiar?

The difference is this: that team completely blew up, and went 1-7 the rest of the year. Be as negative as you want, cry woe is me about the state of our defense, but understand that we are in nowhere near as much trouble now as we were then. This program is too strong for that.

Quincy Carter looked like Tom Brady that night. He was unstoppable.

I remember being really sad after that game. I was 18 back then. Now that I'm 23 and with a math degree, I'm mature enough to move on with my life and not let college football upset me so much.

Unfortunately he can only do so much. And as soon as a defense can stop him/them a few times, they are screwed.

I was attending LSU during the mid-late '90s and do agree that we were sad after that loss...

fortunately, the similarity ends there...during the '90s we were pretty much always sad because we expected to lose...wven when we won, we were afraid to enjoy it too much because we expected to lose the next game...

now, we expect to win...when we lose, we are dissapointed, but we know that we have a damn strong team that will continue to worry the hell out of everyone else who is on our schedule...

Major college football seasons are now measured on2-3 games. LSU will dominate every team but Bama, UF, and aTm. But in the same breath, if LSU finishes 9-3 or 10-2 with a Peach Bowl or cotton bowl invite the season will be a disappointment. LSU should be in BCS bowls every other year. Last nights loss hurt because it is highly likely that we will have at least one probably two more losses. Thus ensuring a chic like fil a bowl.

but 98 was supposed to be a great year. LSU started off in the top 5 that year

i can't imagine what it was like to watch that team nuke itself over the year as an LSU fan. luckily i was a couple years away

They've always been measures by 2-3 games. At least since the 70's.

While this defense is not as good as the last 3, it is no where near as bad as one coached by Lou Tepper.
