based on our "running game" so far, I like his chances of demolishing that record.

He better; it's the only shot we have of winning games.

At some point, we just have to come to terms with the fact that SP wants a pass first (second and third as well) offense. The running game is always an afterthought.

This is incorrect.
The first games, we were running way more than was appropriate.

That was CSP's decision.
He had us run even when it was detrimental.
You don't do that if your goal is to create a super pass-dominant offense.

What he wants is a balanced offense.
But he has adjusted because right now, that's not in the cards.

This might be correct. It just seems we haven't any luck with that.

It's not just "right now". Other than a decent running game in 2009, we have not had a running game that puts fear in any defensive coordinator.
Is it the blocking schemes or the lack of talent in the backfield? I don't know. Maybe a little of both.

And we had so much hope regarding that zone blocking.

But the talent is at least part of the problem.
Evans being out hurts the whole OL.

We've always been pass first, but never like this.

No doubt. Our run blocking hasn't been a world-beater under SP, but our running game in 2009 (I keep going back to that season because this feels just like that one to me)worked because Ivory bulldozed his way for extra yards; he also allowed Thomas to stay somewhat rested.
I'm hoping Robinson can do the same thing. A guy like him can make an average run blocking OL into world champs...it happened in 2009 and it can happen again.

You're thinking of 2010.

Mike Bell and Reggie Bush played in 2009.

I think Payton just said, "frick it" on the run game for the Cardinals

I hope that's an exception and not a trend. A balanced offense is always preferable. Payton knows this.

Agreed, but in the moment, it was the right decision.

Our run game was going nowhere.

ROBINSON FTW...

He ran great against a defeated team at the end. If he can get yards like that in the first quarter, that's all we need with PT and Sproles
