Miles is a true CEO type coach.

Almost all great CEOs will confess that they achieved success by recruiting smarter people and surrounding themselves with them.

Miles brought aboard chavis, who is the colleges best defensive coordinator. He is the best, not based on only his coaching, but on his long term tenured loyalty. With a top three defensive mind, selfless service, and fierce loyalty, our defenses will consistently be one of the best in the country.

Tommy moffitt is widely known to be one of the best in the business. He enters his thirteenth year as the strength and conditioning coach, and will be here for a long time to come. Our players will always be among the most prepared physically in the nation. Saban tried to pull his strings to recruit moffitt to no avail. Tommy is a tiger through and through.

Frank Wilson is one of the country's best recruiters. He is a great man, genuine, well spoken, down to earth, humble and charming. He brings a family feel and with miles creates more than football for LSU players, but the feeling of home. His reputation in New Orleans is unrivaled as a positive figure of integrity.

Cam Cameron knew he could easily rebound in work at the highest level. He worked directly with some of the best in the business: flacco, brees, rivers, ladanian Tomlinson, ray rice, etc. it was his relationship with miles alone that encouraged him to not continue at the nfl level and to renter the college ranks. The offense has made immediate and unimaginable strides. The offense will continue to put the ball in our play makers hands, will have consistent qb play and a potent offense for the foreseeable future.

Brick hayley is one of the best line coaches in the country. He came from the nfl also. He is hard on his players, pushes them with his intensity and they love him for it.

The media and our low lying fans can spin miles as a dumb and lucky coach.

He plays coy. He prefers to be underestimated. He doesn't throw players or coaches under the bus publically the keep us in the loop. He promotes a program of family over business. He treats people with class. He makes the game interesting with gutsy play calls. He doesn't purposefully run up the score. He is a great coach but a better person(father, husband, friend, public figure). He handled coaching transitions with the upmost class, especially mallory/peveto, crowton, and kragthorp. He loves his players and fiercly defends them, for example the press conference about russell shepard being a bust, or him leaving for michigan. He stands for something more than just winning. He is successful at life.

Thats why he is the greatest recruiter in the country. He brings the best talent in staff around him. The program is easily one of the most stable in the country and consistent.

This is a golden age for LSU. Don't end up regretting taking it for granted

A much needed reminder of a great person and a successful long term asset to the LSU football program.

I actually think DiNardo began it, Saban took it to a new level, and Miles maintained it.

Posts like this are always full of hyperbole. To wit:

I love Chavis, but to date, we do not have one of the best defenses in the country this season.

Thats why he is the greatest recruiter in the country.

Sorry, at the very least, Saban is a superior recruiter. He's had the consensus number one class in four of the last five years and he has taken the best player in La. from Miles in two of the last three seasons.

quote:

He is a great coach but a better person(father, husband, friend, public figure).

I laugh when I see assertions like this. Those close to the program recognize that Miles is not some idealized angel. He has his, err, personal foibles. Not that I care one whit. He may lead his personal life as he sees fit.

Let's win some more national championships before romantacizing this era of LSU football. We're capable of a championship dynasty, not merely being competitive on an annual basis.

I would not call what CLM has done "maintaining". He has the best record in CFB besides Boise since he has been at LSU. I would call his efforts here "damn strong"!

agreed. If we're going to talk about LES as CEO, then he sustained the program's positive track by providing the necessary resources and mid-level management guidance.

And the rant is always full of negative spinning detractors and idiots.

Chavis consistently has one of the best defenses in the toughest conference in the country. He just happened to lose a record number of defensive players to the nfl draft, which is in itself proof of his success

Saban is not the best recruiter for staff which is far more important in long term stability. He continually chews up and spits out his staff by his micromanaging.

Miles will outlast saban.

My post has hyperbole?

When did I call miles an angel?

Do you deny that he is a good coach to his players and a great family man?

You're contrary to be contrary. Congratulations. Please look in the mirror, you are happy to be a sad pessimist dressed in a realists clothes. Try being honest with yourself

CLM wanted to bring Bill Clay with him from OSU, and not have theoretically Muschamp, nor say an actual hire in Jimbo forced upon him(whom later suggested CLM heavyhanded his playcalling). CLM hired Malveto, he finally hired a truly competent OC in Cam, 8 yrs into his tenure.

He won the 2007 BCS with two losses, and other narrow escapes, with the by far best team in the country that year(Fla's talent the only one really close), lost the 2006 natty title to Fla(and at Aub) with the absolute most talented team in the country.

I'm grateful for CLM and his current staff, and very pleased with LSU Football.

But, ease with the Lewinskis, as it appears his hand was possibly somewhat guided by LSU's Ath Dept(and rightfully so) at times.

the greatest recruiter in the country.

Has 4 or 5 straight #1 ranked recruiting classes, which have won him three of the last four BCSCGs.

First of all, in your original post, you merely said that Miles was the "greatest recruiter in the country." Now, recognizing that is a totally untenable statement, you attempt to retroactively modify the sentence to mean "best recruiter for staff." Even accepting that convenient reinterpretation, your position is dubious. First, several of Saban's coordinators and assistants have gone on to head coaching jobs (e.g. Muschamp, Jimbo, etc.) Thus, while Saban may be a taskmaster, it appears he "recruits" (an odd term to apply here) coordinators with talent. Second, your notion that Miles fosters long-term stability while Saban doesn't is patently stupid since this is Saban's seventh year at Bama and he has won three of the last four NCs and is in position to compete for another. That's as "stable" as it gets. Third, you appear to entirely overlook Miles' disastrous promotion of Mallory/Peveto, and the fact that he went through several sub-par OC's before arriving at Cameron.

quote:

Miles will outlast saban.

First, pure conjecture. Second, who gives a frick even if it is true? Will he win more championships that Saban? That's what I -- and most fans -- actually care about.

quote:

Do you deny that he is a good coach to his players and a great family man?

Correct, I deny that he is a "great family man," whatever the frick that means.

Don't try to be pithy. It doesn't suit you. Moreover, I am honest with myself. That's why I see the LSU program as it actually is, rather than as I wish it to be.

I think we don't give enough credit to Lsu's front office. The Tigers hit to homeruns in arow. They hired saban who gave us the foundation, but most importantly they hired Miles who has built a "DAMN STRONG FOOTBALL POWERHOUSE.

Look back at other coaches who left a program and see how their program went belly up. Osborne neb, spurrier uf, stallings tied, carroll usc, carr mich, fulmer tenn, slocum tamu & rich rod wvu. Man we are blessed!!

These teams hit hard times while the Tigers have passed all them by, to sit on the top of the CFB world. Miles deserves a lot of the credit but the front offices should get the Tigers share.

Who can honestly say they knew who Les Miles was before coming to BR. You can call him dumb and a bafoon, just remember to put winner behind it. The man has did a wonderful job building this program. Now he has a quality oc to match with the best dc in the land, les will sit back and laugh while guiding the best cfb program in the country.

Firstly, I do assert that the best recruiter in the country is directly surrounding yourself with the best staff as was my very first assertion in my original post.

Secondly, it is your opinion that winning championships is the most paramount trait. Perhaps you would have cum as your coach, or mack brown? who cares what people do as long as they win? When saban leaves bama for age or greener pastures with the NCAA breathing down its neck, you then ask people if it was better to have saban and lost than to have never had him at all.

Thirdly, did it ever occur to your pessimistically negative mind, that miles sacrificed one year with malveto at the helm to achieve long term stability with one of the best defensive minds in the country thus sacrificing the short term for the long term? Coaches with good relationships with his peers are privy to information that know it alls like yourself are not....

Fourthly, who's male appendage do you spend more time coddling, your own or saban's?
