i am 28 with no credit and am interested in getting my first credit card. i am extremely frugal so going apeshit with the card is a highly unlikely scenario. i am mainly thinking about getting one to assist with rental cars, airline tickets and emergencies (knock on wood).

what does the board recommend for a beginner? any particular card i should research that i have a chance at getting with no credit history? any help is appreciated. thank you.

Look for one with no annual fees. And pay it off in full EVERY time you use it. Start saving money up for an emergency.

Chase Freedom, Amex Blue/Green, etc. BoA might have a similar card to the Freedom Card that you could get.

With little or no credit, an Amex could be hard to get your hands on. They demand a score of around 750 or higher. Chase Freedom card is easier to get and still has great rewards with no annual fee. Had one for a while and my wife and I have already racked up some cash back.

If you are ok with BoA and plan to stay with them, I would start with there.

I personally will never do business with BoA, they are a bunch of crooks IMO.

While I am a big fan of Amex. I would not get one of their Charge Cards as my 1st card.

Barclaycard offers a Rewards Mastercard that gives double points for every dollar spent on gas, grocerie,s and utilities. I would check them 1st
