Was Mike Evans ever high on LSU when being recruited?

I'm at work so I cannot search the recruiting websites. I know LSU missed out on some WRs a few years ago that I believe were committed here at one point. I can't remember if it was Mike Davis, Mike Evans, or both.
TIA!
TIA!

He was a 3 star, unranked WR with offers from A&M, Colorado State and Tulane only.

Camerons Sims > Mike Evans

that and a converted basketball player. probably no one knew about him or his potential.

His carrying the ball like a loaf of bread every time he touches it will eventually bite him in the arse. It's inevitable.

It funny you asked this because during the Bama game I started googleing him. He was way off every teams radar. AM was by far his best offer.

you're thinking of Mike Davis that decommited and signed with Texas

Went to high school with him, & my sister graduated with him. I am surprised he has turned out to be as good as he is.
He was primarily a basketball player in high school.
He just appeared big and bulky with not a ton of speed- but clearly it's all working out for him now.
Evans basketballing on #1 team in state- first two dunks are him

actually he was a 2-star til after he committed to us. He got reranked. Lot of bitching among aggies for "wasting a scholarship" on him. He only played HS ball his senior year. He had a few offers to play basketball in college actually.

You got to connect on guys like this to build a program. Speaks to your staff to grab guys like him and Johnny.

Say what you want about Sherman, he really had some good hits on player evaluations.

when he retires from the NFL, I remain hopeful he'll come back home and run our scouting department. He did a terrible job convincing kids to play for A&M. But he's proven to be one of the best evaluators of talent around

This thread should be called: shite that doesn't matter at all.

Miller, Jockel, Mathews, Evans, Manziel weren't they all signed by Sherm?
He did a terrible job of coaching them, that's for sure.

yep, Sherman did a good job there (though that was a package deal)

Mathews
legacy. His brother was playing for us at the time

Evans
That's what this thread is about. He's a kid from Galveston with offers from Tulane and CSU. That shouldn't take a lot of convincing

Manziel
again a good evaluation. Manziel only had one other QB offer (Oregon). He is from Texas and wanted to stay around.
I think you may be misunderstanding what I'm saying though. There are two keys to recruiting: evaluations and convincing. The vast majority of the guys he got away from mid-majors, not schools like LSU, UTx, or OU. If any of those schools offered, we lost the kid virtually every time. There's no reason A&M can't hold it's own vs those schools. He did an amazing job finding guys those schools didn't want though.

I'd actually disagree on this. But it sort of depends on what you mean by it. He's a great X's and O's coach. He did a great job teaching guys fundamentals. But he's a terrible gameday coach and he didn't know how to properly motivate guys. I just think he's a poor fit for a college head coach because he never seemed to understand the passion that you need to be successful.

funny how that works sometimes. I really like what Sumlin has brought to the table but the truth is that fridge was pretty well stocked. good luck this year...except on the 23rd of november.
get better, get ready...get even.

obviously I don't follow A&M recruiting like you do, but it seemed like it got better (higher ranked classes) under Sherm. I just threw out some names off the top of head. So Evans wasn't offered by all the big boys, Mathieu and Claiborne didn't have who's who offers either when LSU offered. You need a mix of top guys and gems like those guys imo. I do agree he didn't seem to fit as a college coach. I thought it was an odd hire. he may be a good x's and o's coach, but blowing all those leads in 2011 was inexcusable.

This is becoming more the norm with players. These guys that played basketball all there life and then flipped to football for a year or two. Same thing with Kevin Spears for us. Can't wait til he gets on the field.
