LINK

8:00 mark gives a good recap of events. It doesn't catch the entire band incident, but it caught the end of it.

It's always something ... cigars, fires, band members having to elbow ppl to be able to keep moving, earthquakes ...

I was there and it was AWESOME. I believe they had a gif of a piece of it yesterday. Basically AU kicker was out early on the other half of the field kicking with TGBFTL was still performing. They were in a box formation marching off onto the south endzone and the AU kicker decided he was not going to move. Got towards the end of the line and the kicker got smacked with a trombone. That was followed by some pushing around from the tuba's. Awesome stuff!!!

It was weird to see both teams with three losses and ranked outside the top 20 competing for a chance to play in the SEC championship game. Nowadays it seems if you arent at least sniffing the top five you have no chance to play in Atlanta.

Ron Franklin should be required to do play-by-play for every LSU-Auburn game

the crowd reaction during the melee was priceless.

I was there too. Sitting in the Aub section (free tix what can I say) wearing gold along with my wife.

The best part, not apparent to TV viewers as it happened during a TV timeout, was when the whole crowd started chanting 'auburn sucks' right down on the Aub fans where I was sitting.

I joined the chant, of course. What a pitiful display of sportsmanship on Auburn's part, especially in the wake of the previous LSU/Aub game at LSU (1999), where they won in a blowout then smoked cigars on the field after.

Anyone who as at both games felt a lot of passion about it, and I don't know if I ever experienced a greater feeling of solidarity with my fellow Tiger fans then right at that moment.

Needless to say, by mid 3rd quarter in the 2001 game, I was practically sitting by myself in a deserted visitors section.

Sweet revenge indeed.

This story's not going to come off as funny on a message board - it's one of those "you had to be there" deals - but I'm going to tell it anyway, because it was hilarious at the time.

After the game, we were all hanging out at our tailgate listening to the radio call in shows. You've got to remember, this was a HUGE game. It had been rescheduled because of 9/11, and if LSU wins his thing, they go to the SECCG for the first time, IIRC.

Anyway, we're listening to this show, and about 3 out of the first 5 callers wanted to discuss the band/kicker fight. I can't remember what show that we were listening to, but finally, the host gets pissed and goes off on this tirade, some about like this.

"look people, quit calling in and asking about the damn band fight. this isn't band talk, all right? I mean, what am I supposed to say about this. the trumpet player had awesome footwork tonight, and the 3rd tuba was rock solid. the drums were steady as ever. this is a football show, so DO NOT CALL IN AND ASK ABOUT THE BAND AGAIN."

At the risk of being too long to read, let me recap this game for some of the younger posters who may not remember it.

First, this game was the return trip to Tiger Stadium for Tuberville and AU after having pulled this in 1999 in his first year as coach.

This image was posted all over the LSU locker room and became sort of a rallying cry among internet posters at the time. Everyone thought we'd get the game as planned in September, but this was the game that was scheduled the Saturday after 9/11...so that weekend's games were moved to the first Saturday in December. As it turns out, this was a huge advantage for LSU, which did not hit its stride until after the Ole Miss loss at home and they turned it over to Rohan and Josh reed to do their thing. Playing them early would have likely been a loss.

So we end up getting AU at home in December playing for our first trip to Atlanta with a hot team and a white hot hate for Tuberville and AU. As I remember it, the whole day was angry. Several hours before kick off, Ripley's Believer it or Not came to Tiger Stadium to shoot something for TV (some girt shooting arrows with her feet while standing on her head or some shite) and she was doing it in front of the student section. when she missed several times, the students who were in even earlier than usual began to boo her and chant over rated.

Before kick off, the AU team decided to jump up and down on the eye at midfield, and drew the only pregame flag I've ever seen for unsportsmanlike. LSU won the toss and promptly on side kicked and recovered. Another kick off saw freshman Michael Clayton absolutely destroy the AU return man.

By half time the crowd was whipped up, and the band had gone up to the student section to do some number with the Golden Girls dancing in front. while that was going on, oddly the AU special teams unit came out and on to the field early but was staying on the south endzone side of the field. The were getting booed by the crowd when they did. When the band finished, they reformed into lines and started marching back towards the SEZ playing Hey Fighting Tigers. The kickers looked like they wanted to move at first when they saw the band coming, but as the boos and then cheers started reigning down, they decided to stand still and make the band walk around then...which garnered a couple of shoves by band members. Had Damon Duval and those guys reacted back and shoved a band member, as angry as that crowd was that night, I'm almost certain there would have been fans coming out of the south endzone to beat his arse. It was like a soccer riot waiting to happen.

With several minutes left in the game, cigars began being lit up throughout the stadium and within a couple of minutes the whole joint smelled like cigars.

Still one of the best nights I've ever had in Tiger Stadium.

Auburn gets is assed whipped in TS in many different ways. When the band is doing it, you got issues.
