He has passed Brenie Moore and now sits second on the all time wins list at LSU. He is certain to break Coach Mac's all time win record unless he leaves unexpected. The knock on coach Mac was he couldn't beat the Bear. He only beat Ole Miss and Bama once in the same year.
Coach Mac was always revered and well thought of past his days at LSU. Will Leslie have a similar legacy?

Miles' legacy will be revered as the leader of the best era of LSU football, ever. We are extremely fortunate to witness this program at its height. LSU produces numerous players in the NFL each year over the last 10 years. While CLM hasn't been here this entire time, his legacy will be one of stability, integrity, winning, and revenue production.

Les will be remembered as one of the best coaches in the school's history. Sure, there's a vocal minority who bitch about him now, but after he's done, they also will tip their cap to his accomplishments; even if they try to put a "...but he lost to Saban..." in things.

One thing would truly cement Miles' legacy here as greatest ever: I hope Miles wins at least one more SEC title here, after Saban has left Alabama.

If that happens, Miles will win over the "he isn't Nick" crowd, as well as the rest of us.

I'd think another title while Saban was still there would win more over

I'd rather he do it while Saban's still there.

To me the greatest part of the Miles Legacy is we get images of Miles lifting the BCS trophy instead of the Alabama whore coach whenever we talk of LSU championships...

Thank you Les Miles and the 2007 team!!!!!

Best era of LSU football?? He has presided over one if the 3 greatest eras, each having 1 NC. His run is similar to Phil Fulmers at TN, and without another NC he will have a similar legacy, but without the end of career crash and burn. Good coach, great recruiter, good for program.

Oh, I hope he does that too. My point was this:
at one time, it was 3 coaches people compared, not 2. Miles, Saban, and Urban Meyer. Well, Urban has left, and Miles and Saban are still winning... so Urban's not in that conversation anymore. He didn't have the longevity the other two have had.

Like I said, I want Miles to outlast Saban. I want him here on the sidelines winning SEC titles after Nick has moved on to ... wherever- Texas, the NFL, the lake in Georgia.

Urban is now no longer considered "better" than Spurrier at Fla; Saban will drop behind Bear at Alabama (most likely). But if Miles hangs around and keeps winning the way he has, he will be the best ever at LSU.

Um, Meyers has 2 NC and a perfect season with the possibility if playing for another NC this year. I think he is the ONLY coach that can even be brought up now when comparisons of today's coaches to Saban are brought up.

Had Cholly been accompanied by Internet and TV revenue like today during his tenure he would have left long before he did. He would have been gently pushed out the door.

Les will be held in higher regard than Mac in part because he has won a national championship and has been competitive on a national level year in and year out. Mac has some great years but even his best years were not on Miles' level.

The thread was re: Miles LSU legacy. Going along those rules, what Urban does at Ohio St isn't relevant to his Florida legacy. Neither is Saban's accomplishments at separate programs (his run at Alabama doesn't count towards shite for his LSU time, and his lone title here doesn't become a Tide title now that he's at Bama).

Meyer's time at Florida is done. He can no longer add to that. Miles continues to coach here, and has won another SEC title since Meyer left.

If you want to build a shrine to a coach (but not a program), that's fine. But I don't think Oklahoma St gives a shite that Jimmy Johnson and Les Miles won titles at other programs after they left the Cowboys, nor should they.

Saban's legacy at LSU is also done. He coaches at Alabama.
