Put a young guy inside let Kwon, Barrow, and Debo play outside and hopefully fix the perimeter problem.

Gurley and other backs will exploit the end with speed.

It's an easy fix. Good, coaching opportunity. Get better.

Even with stud DTs in front of him, welter still looks awful.

Just saying... This has been my opinion since before the season started.

This is why Welter is in the middle.
People scream for his head but I dont think most fans realize that this is our best set option since our best LB's have to support slow defensive ends.

Can't have both. Barrow stays outside IMO

So what your saying is we have no decent OLB besides Barrow? or at least no one better at else better at OLB that welter is at MLB?

We have several OLB faster than Barrow. Terrible post.

The biggest problem we have from linebackers back is play diagnosis. I hope that is just a function of youth. They need to learn to read the play and then react aggressively. Right now there's a lot of tentativeness and tiptoeing around.

Either that or a lack of speed across the board which I hope is not the case.

Our safeties and corners are not getting to the outside either. A hallmark of the LSU defense has been lateral speed and it has effectively disappeared in one season.

Slow defensive ends, OLBs who can't contain, CBs who do not come up in run support - hopefully, we will get this fixed.

I feel like we can fix it thought and a lot of it has to do with young guys not reading the defense well enough. I do worry about Georgia and A&M though.

I think you run Tahj Barrow Kwon

I see what you are saying but Kwon is showing that he could the the "real deal". rotate Debo and you are solid

Slow defensive ends? I think our ends are very fast compared to others.

and that largely comes only through experience. This chart was in the opening game notes...number of total starts by player on defense...

LBs don't have to diagnose plays. They read keys. Being that some of them are young they are a little slow at reading their keys. They will get better as the year goes. LBs have a lot to read and they have to do it in a split second to be effective.

They had one bad quarter against UAB. And only had like 4-5 bad plays total against TCU. The mistakes are small and fixable. You're over exaggerating badly.

This defense looks way better than Georgia and A&M's.

Semantics.

No it's not. Reading keys are hell of a lot easier than diagnosing plays.
