Shot my first Glock

J/K
23 .40
Was pleasantly surprised. The grip size/angle thing was not as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe I have large hands for my size. dunno. Anyway, it was fun, and either watching a lot of gun shows helps, or I am just a natural. I was destroying the target(catch pan from a Weber grill) with little time between shots with no need to get used to it.
I was shocked at how little recoil there was. On the first shot, I fully expected my forehead to be split open. My hands barely moved.

Most Glock hate comes from people that are weak little men. Congrats on being man enough to handle such a pistol.

Did you find it more comfortable than a Springfield? That was the deciding factor for me going with an XD was that the extra bulk felt better in my hands. Just something I have wondered if it was unique to me or not.

Only the third handgun I've ever fired. The first was a Ruger 9 and so long ago I have no memory of it, and the other is a tiny little .25.

Mine, too (I guess I should qualify, first Glock and first .40 S&W owned - I had fired a G17 before, as well as dozens of other handguns, long guns and crew-served weapons).
I came down from .45 ACP, so I assumed that's why the transition for me was fairly easy. I do not have large hands. I still shoot the Sig P245 better than the G23, but I shoot the G23 well enough.

If it doesn't go bang, THAT you will remember. Get a phuckin Glock and sleep well.

quote:No, you're not unique in this. I feel the same. Too small is harder to hold. The bigger the grip the more of your hand is on it...think about it. Of course there is a point of diminishing return here but the Glock doesn't surpass that, obviously.

I know a female D.A.R.E. instructor and two female probation officers who all carry glocks. One of them carry's a .40. Their hands are not big.

No but if you're used to aiming guns with a 1911 grip angle, then the bullets you fire will go straight over your assailant's head.
I am accustomed to it to where it is instinctual. If I grabbed a Glock I would not be able to point-shoot in a stressful scenario with success. Of course this can be fixed with training but I don't own any Glocks to train with.

I understand that in theory, but seems like the sights are where they are. Really wish there was another design to shoot side by side.

It doesn't have to do with the arrangement of the sights. It has to do with the grip angle.
When I extend my arms and point a gun naturally, a 1911 grip angle works best for me. The Glock grip angle is too exaggerated and the same "natural" point I have leaves the muzzle dangling in the air WAY above the rear sights. Hence, my shots would be extremely high in a stressful scenario using a Glock.

That's the reason the sights are there. Aim lower
