Middle linebacker: I don't think Welter will be able to with stand SEC caliber backs like Gurley or Yeldon.

Giving up the edge: Lost containment this week and last.

Rushing: We seemed to get stuffed more when trying the middle. It is necessary however to set up play action, so not really a major concern.

Overall this looks like after two games the most complete team LSU has fielded since 2007.

The runs on the edge do need to be addressed, but the LB's will continue to improve, I am not too concerned...

Reasonable concerns. Our ends need to step it up also.

This has to be glaring out on film. Welter is just not SEC caliber imo

I agree. 2007 had its share (relatively speaking) of defensive issues as well. There's time to improve though.

The middle concerns me more. The edge seemed to be more of taking poor angles which can be corrected. After watching Gurley, and seeing us give up some runs right up the gut, someone needs to step up at linebacker.

I agree the defense looks confused at times.
I think it is just the youth and the learning curve.

The offense looks amazing..a PASSING ATTACK!!!!

So does that speak to Les' favor of him starting or lack of scheme knowledge by others?? Need DB and LB to step up on run def, ESP on edges.

no it's not necessary. WE are a much better running team when we use the pass to set up the run. Like the Saints. You got to go with what works for you not tired clichés ways of thinking about offense. For short stretches Miles and Co. revert back to old form. Hopefully at some point they just fully embrace a wide open offense that defenses never know whats coming at them on any given play.

Nothing against Welter he plays hard, but middle linebacker is our obvious weakness you would think with all the athletes we have we would have one of our best at that position. If we don't fix it we will have problems in the SEC.

Our defense will not be what we are use to seeing under Chavis. We'll give up more yards and points this year than any other under Chavis. It should get better as the year goes on, but it won't be a typical year.

The good news is our offense may be able to offset any dropoff on defense.

the MLB and DB's looked bad for about half a quarter, the good news is they went in at halftime and made some adjustments...Chief is the best in the business (most of the time).

One more tune up game before Auburn and they will be ready, but Welter needs to go.

59, and especially 98 are generating a pretty good pass rush (maybe slightly better than last year's ends), but it's clear a this point that they are struggling to play the run. While I think LSU will win the game, Auburn is really going to attack the edges, and the ends better get ready.

Welter
Everyone's favorite whipping boy.

I don't know why everyone's gung ho to name-drop Welter, but most are unwilling to call out Mills (who had a shocker last night).

Depth on D, ESP the line. Also, Tacking has not been good..but overall this team has exceeded expectation, so far.
