Never been and want to go with my buddy tonight. Are 'frogging conditions' good today?

If you have the time, beer, and frogs, it's a good time to go.

Very important rule and if you do happen to toss it in the boat, don't shoot it.

Rubber boots
Light and extra batteries
Gig or grabber
Knife
Skeeter dope

Find a swamp or rice field.

Do Coonasses catch them or gig them? Rednecks in W TN and N MS gig the shite out of them. I have a gig that I named Excalibur. It has it written on the handle in Sharpie and everything. It is a frog slayer from way back. Nothing like emptying the beer out of the cooler and replacing it with fresh frogs.

It's amazing how many grown men are giant pusses. I have a friend that missed at least 20 frogs one night because he kept worrying about snakes and alligators. He's one of my best and oldest friends, but that was 5 years ago and I haven't taken him back since.

Missing frogs...

Be sure to not get your purse wet while you are frogging.

Are you going to be in a boat or wading? And gigging or grabbing?

It's also illegal to carry or possess a firearm while frogging. I found out after by recent trip I hear that if you have a CCW and are carrying for SD they wouldn't write you a ticket, but I wouldn't push it, esp if beer is involved

Approach slow, strike fast. Usually helps if the water is a little below normal stage to allow the frogs to be sitting on the bank instead of in the grass

don't worry about looking for the eyes. Scan the banks and brush for their white bellies and go straight to them in the boat. Have the grabber on the bow of the boat and keep a light in their face until you are on top of them and grab that son of a bitch

If you use any tool other than this:

A. You're not doing it right

&

2. You're a giant puss

Also if you don't fall out of the boat/get tore up by mum bush branches/accidentally almost grab a gator or snake you're not trying hard enough and it wasn't a good trip.

There was a time when I would have considered myself absolutely mad at the bullfrog. Used to be my favorite thing in the world to do, and you talk about get geared up.

Here are the devises we used to bring on each trip.

1. Grabber (best used on frogs that are clear of brush and such)

2. Gig - Being a good gigger is actually harder than it looks. we had one guy that used to go with us that I swear, he never missed with the gig. all you'd see if frog feet sticking out of mud once he pounced.

3. Pellet gun w/scope

Not as effective as you'd think. They jump, and if the water's deep, no frog.

4. this was the best trick right here though. a fishing pole with a plastic worm. we were frogging on the red river. sometimes, we'd have a big frog scoped out, but he was on a sandbar with a super shallow water around it. couldn't get to him. man, you flick a plastic worm on a barren sandbar that frog's sitting on, he'll hop right to it, and commence to chewing on it.

caught several like that.
