Blurred lines is a catchy tune and the chick in the video has a damn near perfect set of milk bags.
Not all music has to be Pranoid Android. I'd actually argue you need to listen to some crap so you eventually learn to appreciate the goods when you in finally get to a point in your life when you are making your own decisions.
Parents who play good music when they are young help too. If you are waiting until they are teenagers to tun kids on to quality music then it's too late.

My wife is pregnant for our first child (son). She's already playing for him a healthy dose of Marvin Gaye, Beatles, and a lot of classical (Beethoven, Bach, Igor Stravinsky).

Congrats on the new addition! Sounds like he will be just fine.
I was playing Jimi Hendrix live from Woodstock videos for my 6 yo yesterday.
Gotta be careful exposing him to too many queen videos though. Freddy might not be the best influence on a youngster.

this song should DIAF. Hands down the most overplayed song of the year, possibly the decae.

Which is the only reason I think the song is popular with dudes, especially on this site. If the music video was just Robin Thicke douching up in the club, many bros probably wouldn't care for the song. Throw 3 topless models in the video doing nothing but standing around and dancing, guys admit to liking the song.

Thanks! I'm a metal head. So I'll have to wait till he's older before I start exposing him to my musical interests.

After seeing the Bicycle video, I would've never guessed Freddie was gay.

One Vision is the greatest 80s song of all...well, all the 80s I guess.

My 12 year old is a beast. Knows the Hendrix/Zep/Floyd/SRV catalogues by heart. Plus 20 more bands, I'm guessing. He is OLD school.
I have NEVER asked him to turn his amp down. Not once. Kid plays Kashmir/Thunderstruck/blues progressions like a boss. And he has like three friends better than him. There is HOPE.
Better than straight A's in my book.

If there truly is a god, I will never be forced to listen to this song.
When my kids were young, they knew Rubber Soul by heart.

I hate when people think they need to force their musical tastes on others, including parents. Let the kids listen to what they want.

Praise Jesus. I've actually been afraid to express that opinion on this board. What bombastic nonsense that band produced. Some of it was catchy. But that's the best I can say about it.

I thought I was the only person who hated Queen on this board. Though I do get a kick out of all-American heterosexual manly men jamming out to glorified show tunes. The juxtaposition almost makes Queen worth it.
Anyway, music like Miley Cyrus doesn't suck because it is the new music but because it is objectively terrible. Honestly, I'd be a little disappointed if my daughter ended up listening to what I listened to. I want her to develop her own tastes and find the next good thing. Hopefully, she'll still have some nostalgia for the Pixies and such because of time with dear old dad, but I don't expect, nor want, it to be her favorite music.
There has always been terrible pop music that dominates the charts and then disappears into the ether. Miley Cyrus is no different from Brittney Spears or Jodi Watley or Pebbles or Samantha Fox or Debbie Gibson or Captain and Tenille or whatever crappy mass marketed pop detritus that has existed since, well, pop music began.
The solution isn't looking backwards, but looking around. There's plenty of great music being made right now, whatever your music palette. I hope my daughter's fascination with terrible pop music is brief, or non-existent, but I doubt I'll be that lucky. A lot of pop music is f'n terrible because it is aimed at teenagers, and teenagers have atrocious taste, as a group.
That's not a generational thing, as we've all been there. I had crappy taste when I was 13.
