And they turned it down. I've seen the guy play and I have my own opinions, just curious what you Germany/La Liga dudes think of him. I didn't realize he was that highly regarded. He's a good player and all but Jesus Christ what is United thinking?. He's surely the worst player that regularly starts for Madrid, right? That seems like crazy money to pay for a defensive mid that I honestly don't rate any higher than the Michael Carricks of the world.

I know there's a couple transfer threads already. Sorry, this was easier.

You would have flipped your lid, were Sergio Busquets on the market. In a perfect world (all sides with no one signed yet, before the bidding began), he could be the world´s most expensive player.

Yes, that´s right, a defensive mid.

In today's inflated market, Khedira is absolutely worth 34 million Euros.

He's well rounded and can run people into the fricking ground. He would thrive in the Premier League.

He can play a role that no one who plays for Real Madrid can really fill, and his ability to cover ground pairs well with Xabi Alonso

If Michael Carrick was six years younger, that's probably not that far beyond what he might fetch, either.

They REALLY didn't want to have to settle for Fellaini.

To be fair, Busquets is the prototype for the position even down to his county attitude

It also helps that he could adopt a much more expansive role in any other team in the world

Khedira and Carrick aren't really comparable. Carrick's is a static passer of the ball, limited in his movement. He's an absolutely superb player, but what Khedira does is run and cover ground, supporting both Defense and attack. He's not bad technically, and is probably worth more than 34 mil to Madrid. He's the least flashy player on Madrid, which might explain why he's not rated, but he's an important player who does all the work so Madrid can attack. Makelele was just as important and he was tremendously undervalued by Madrid, sold for peanuts compared to what he was worth.

I think he's a very good player, but I don't think he's worth that... I can see it in a window closing, desperation sense... but if that number was thrown around on June 15th, I'd be surprised...

But Man U were desperate, they offered €36mm for Ander fricking Herrera, who I think is a nice player, but c'mon...

I think Everton made out in that deal, McCarthy is who they should have gone after... glad they didnt!

I was talking about Busquets.

Khedira's role at United probably wouldn't look much different than his role at Real Madrid under Mourinho. He had a good bit of latitude going forward because of Alonso's positioning.

Khedira actually plays pretty far up the field for Germany. Schweinsteiger is often times the deepest mid

This might not be correct. Carrick is often times the player who has covered the most ground in the squad in a given match. He was even top of the entire league in distance covered at the halfway point 2 years ago (if i remember correctly). I'll try to find some links.

Guy does things you don't notice on the score sheet.

He's become a more rounded player, and a rock in Center midfield, and can play any of the center Midfield positions if needed.

He's worth every penny. This isn't Fellaini, who is not worth any where near what Everton got. He is grossly overrated.

Here is an excerpt from one single game in 2008 against arsenal.

Anderson 10.2 km

Carrick 12.4 km

Fletcher 20.2 km

Same with Real Madrid. Alonso usually played a good bit deeper than Khedira.

Hell, even when paired with Modric under Ancelotti, they just played a "flat" "midfield two."

I mean limited in that he rarely supports the attack from close positions. He's a midfielder. He covers plenty of ground. But watch Khedira one game and watch Carrick. Khedira will make runs off the ball, go into the penalty area to try to finish moves, and then turn around and try to win the ball back. Carrick is more likely to dictate play from deep, position himself so he can combine with forward players while still able to prevent any counters. If anything Carrick is like Alonso.
