It brought a tear to my eye looking at the stats this morning. 36:01 for LSU compared to 23:59 for TCU. 80 plays for LSU compared to 54 for TCU.

LINK

While TCU isn't Alabama, the LSU O couldn't manage that last year against opponents that would not be considered as good as TCU.

I'll feel much better about depth on the D-Line if the O can keep it up.

Agree on Hill being a help. Blue still looks to be a little slow (not unexpected after a knee injury, he'll improve throughout the season I think). Magee looked impressive though.

Blue missed a few blocking assignments that would've made a HUGE difference. I'm completely okay with that too, because they were really costly mistakes that are easy fixes.

It seems Cam is as good as advertised.

Blue looked a step slow getting to the hole a couple times, but it could also be from letting the play develop. He still managed to be effective which we need him to be

The difference between averaging 68 plays last year and running 80 against TCU is nothing more than converting 3rd downs. 13-19 will allow you to run many plays and control the clock. Can't expect that every game, but we need to be near 50% on 3rd downs. You have to go all the way back to 2007 since we did that (47%).

80 freaking plays.. Couldn't believe it when I saw it in Sunday.. We played much quicker and seemed consistently prepared.

You also have to remember that these numbers are slightly skewed in LSU's favor. TCU had the kick off return TD and the kick off fumble. They completely missed out on 2 possessions that would have given them more yardage, more plays, and more TOP, but probably less points.

No coincidence on that year. Very good point

Looking at the ranked competition only LSU averaged 60 plays/game.

Ranked opponents also held the ball 9:20 seconds longer than LSU on average. The biggest disparity was against bama, with the LSU having the ball 19 minutes less than bama.

There ya go. And if LSU can sustain this pace of coverting, They may not get beat. anytime you run 26 more plays than the team you are playing you have an excellent shot at winning.

this is the critical stat and it is tied into the 13-19 on third downs. last year we were upside down ina big way in almost every game on total plays run. We need to keep our defense fresh and off the field and extend drives.

The clemson game was a ridiculous example of play/time differential in the second half of that game. you can't ask any defense to be out there that much

Exactly. Same thing against Alabama. Bama had the ball ~40 minutes to LSU's 20. It's a testament to the D that the game was as close as it was. Leaving the D on the field that long leads to not having enough gas in the tank to shut down the late 4th quarter drives.
