I am looking at the few 3 star players we have and thinking they should all be back higher. Had me wondering if other schools fans think that two. There isn't any question that when you watch there flim you come away impressed.

Donnie Alexandra, Battle, and Upchurch should be 4 star.

The 3 star players that we typicall get are usually diamond in the roughs. Especially the louisiana guys.

Highlight films don't mean as much as people say, people call there "highlight films" film, but what college coaches and even now these country wide recruiting analysts look at is whole entire game film. Yes you can tell a lot about a player from his highlight film, but its the stuff you don't see that could mean the difference between a Top-100 player and a Top-30 player.
Also now more than ever to be noticed you have to go out to these combine and camps and be recognized there. Unfortunately unless you are out of this world, just playing HS ball doesn't cut it.
So being a 3* could mean a lot of reasons, one being like some mentioned a diamond in the rough type player, a guy lacking in measurables, or a guy that just doesn't get a whole lot of press.
I know two guys personally that because they played all 3 major sports didn't have time to go to these combines and camps over the summer and it hurt them.
Not every 5* will be an all-American (FYI most won't be) and not every 3* will be a bench warmer and never contribute(FYI most won't be).
Football is different than basketball or baseball, in that is very hard for freshmen to come in and be ready, let alone dominate. You have to look 2-3 years down the road, and I trust the LSU coaching staff over most in the country if they get a guy for 3 years they can mold him into a player.
For instance the average yardage a freshmen WR will get his first year is around 390, yet somehow, people that just stargaze, think this awesome recruiting class the WR's will come in and all get 500-600. Most people just name their rankings and stars, and don't even realize if they see the field there freshmen year its an accomplishment.
The classic case of what a recruiting class should go is LSU's 2011 class based on rankings and projections, but then you look at previous classes and the Top players were the 3* guys.
Fact is LSU never has and never will sign all 5* no team ever has, be happy with who Les and staff go after and sign, and embrace them as the next great Tigers, don't bring them down or dismiss there talents because in 3 years nobody has any idea who will do what or who will be where.

They are all a bit underrated and don't project as early contributors.

I think there is a push on 247 to get Alexander a bump up.

"...around 390"? I'm not criticizing you; I just think that's funny. How did you arrive at 390 without it being exact?
