Again, that would completely defeat the purpose for someone who wants to try something new

Not necessarily true.

A med rare hangar steak with a great sauce is new for most.

But it's not that common in typical American cuisine. The Bible is based in the middle east. Our Western European ancestors didn't eat much of it and didn't pass the taste for it down. Damn, I'm wanting some lamb kebabs now....

god instructed the Israelites to eat lamb. you know how much pull Jews have in America? lamb is pretty ubiquitous I think.

I do see that he hits up the PDQ place a good bit. We've gotten him to branch out on beer at least though. Tailgating with Mich Ultra is just embarrassing.

It's usually only on menus of nicer (not fine dining) places if it's not an ethnic place. You don't see it on the Chili's, Logan's Roadhouse level of places. Like in Shreveport, where could you get lamb that's not a Greek, Middle Eastern or a fine dining place?

If you're in TX, why not offer a local speciality? Really good fajitas, or proper enchiladas, or a chile relleno..

Why is that? I don't like it much myself, but you can drink a bunch of it when it's 95 degrees and we have a night game.

yeah that's solid that he's really branched out on beer. now if he'd just move along from the flavored rums!

Mabry House always has lamb and Ernest's does a lamb special every now and then, but yeah I get your point. it's seen as an ethnic dish most times.

I grew up in the port city and we made lamb at home all the time. Freeman and Harris used to make a lamb dish soul food style (closed now) and there was a hole in the wall dive in Bossier that made a lamb stew that we'd get on our way to Benton. My guess is nowadays people just don't know how to cook it.

It was more of a case of not knowing any better and refusing to try any variety. I occasionally toss back lighter beers on a long day of tailgating. Though I've tried to shift to drinking water and spacing out the bigger beers while tailgating.

I know. A couple years back I was visiting the parents and they were given a gift cert to Applebee's. I thought I couldn't go wrong with a small sirloin and some mixed veggies. Boy was I wrong. The only thing redeemable was they actually cooked it to my desired doneness. Other than that, fail all around.

A lot of this is really contingent on whether you're trying to end the night inside of this person

That's a good idea.

Bigger beers to me means Dale's Pale Ale, Sweetwater, Terrapin Rye etc. Not the 8%+ stuff some of you guys like.

I still think a roasted beet salad with goat cheese would be a nice salad option.

This is my favorite salad and I LOVE LOVE LOVE serving it to people who think the don't like beets because they've only had canned salad bar beets.

I wouldn't drink more than 1 of a 8% ABV while tailgating. That's just bad news bears.
