I bought the newer Roku last night and I can't just pay for an HBOgo account. Cox is making me rent their box for $8.50 per month. I was trying to get away from cable...

Is there a way to get HBOgo? I'd rather not torrent.

Cox isn't making you get a box to get HBOGo.

HBO currently refuses to offer HBOGO without a cable subscription to HBO.

Any way to get around it without torrenting it?

Yes, they are.

My issue is not ordering HBO. I'm fine with that. I just don't want to have to order the box as well.

Sounds like you are trying to have a cable account (necessary for HBO sub.) but without the equipment rental fee.... good luck

You need the box to decrypt the HBO signal if you have it at home. And you need it at home before you can log in at HBOGo. You can't just get the channel and expect your TV to decrypt it. You COULD buy your own cable box, or get a cable card, but I'm not sure of how to go about it or how that would work with Cox.

Use a friend/family member's cable subscription login. I've been doing it for a year with no issues.

You have to have the box to order HBO, you have to order HBO to get HBOGo. It's how they scam you. It would be nice if they would just offer HBOGo, but cable companies want to rape you, so you have to have an HBO package to get it. To get the HBO package, you have to have the box.
